About the Role

Simply Education are delighted to be working in partnership with an Ofsted-rated Good secondary school in the Stoke-on-Trent area. The school is seeking a passionate and dedicated English Teacher to join their thriving English department. Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging and challenging English lessons across KS3 and KS4 in line with the national curriculum.
  • Plan and deliver lessons that foster creativity, critical thinking, and strong literacy skills.
  • Teach a range of texts, genres, and writing styles, from Shakespeare to contemporary literature.
  • Assess, record, and report on student progress and attainment.
  • Provide constructive feedback to support student growth and achievement.
  • Maintain discipline and encourage high standards of behaviour, punctuality, and effort.
  • Support students in developing confidence in reading, writing, and speaking.
  • Prepare students for GCSE examinations and other assessments.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop schemes of work and innovative teaching strategies.
  • Organise and contribute to extracurricular activities such as reading clubs, creative writing workshops, or drama productions.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and carers to support student development.
  • Contribute to whole-school initiatives and the wider life of the school community.

Key Skills & Qualities

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Strong subject knowledge in English and a genuine passion for literature and language.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective classroom and behaviour management techniques.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate students of varying abilities.
  • Empathy, patience, and adaptability when working with students requiring additional support.

Essential Requirements

  • QTS or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Experience teaching English in line with the national curriculum.
  • An enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).

Desirable

  • Experience supporting students with SEN.
  • Experience leading extracurricular activities related to English.
  • Commitment to inclusive education and promoting equal opportunities.
