This role focuses on providing highly individualised support to a non‑verbal pupil with significant language disorder and social communication needs. You will be working closely with the child throughout the day, following a structured, visual and sensory‑based approach designed to build trust, encourage engagement, and promote meaningful progress.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide calm, consistent and nurturing 1:1 support throughout the school day.
  • Deliver short, personalised learning sessions using motivating activities tailored to the child's needs.
  • Use a total communication approach, including objects of reference, visuals, simple language, and signing.
  • Support social interaction and help facilitate positive engagement with peers and adults.
  • Offer regular sensory regulation breaks and implement sensory strategies as required.
  • Assist with transitions using visual prompts and structured routines.
  • Ensure close supervision at all times due to limited awareness of danger.
  • Support self‑care routines, including a toileting programme.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff and follow individual plans consistently.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience supporting children with autism, communication needs or significant SEN.
  • Understanding of sensory processing needs and sensory‑based support.
  • Knowledge or experience of approaches such as Intensive Interaction (desirable but not essential).
  • Someone patient, attuned, calm and able to build strong and secure relationships.
  • A resilient, nurturing individual committed to high‑quality, personalised support.
  • Ability to follow structure and routines with consistency.

What We Offer

  • A long‑term position with the opportunity for trial days.
  • Competitive pay rates based on experience.
  • Ongoing support and guidance from our education recruitment team.
  • Access to CPD opportunities to develop skills in autism support, communication strategies and behaviour approaches.
