Who Are We? We insure small businesses and enable big dreams – not just for our customers, but for our people and communities too. With over 1,000,000 active insurance policies, we protect builders, bakers, landlords and more than 1,200 other trades. We’re a technology company as well as one that sells insurance. That means we build, we fail, we learn, and we improve. Through our global social impact strategy, called "The Big Dreams Project", we're working to help 10,000 small businesses start or grow by 2030.
What Is the Opportunity? You’ll be taking the reins of our industry-leading pricing and analytics function, putting data right at the heart of our commercial business. This isn't just about crunching numbers; it’s about driving the strategy for a brand trusted by over 900,000 customers to protect what they’ve built. You will lead the way in balancing fair value for our customers with the commercial needs of our multi-provider insurer panel. We’re looking for someone who shares our passion for learning and isn’t afraid to challenge the status quo to deliver the best results. What makes this role different is the level of influence you’ll have and the bridge you’ll build between complex data science and real-world commercial impact. You won’t just be managing a team; you’ll be a key voice in our Core Propositions Leadership Team and lead our Pricing Committee. Operating at the most senior levels of the organisation, you will create and communicate a visionary strategy for how data and analytics will evolve to support our long-term goals.
Responsibilities:
- Lead our pricing strategy to maintain and grow revenue while increasing our customer numbers.
- Create and communicate a clear vision for the future of pricing and analytics across our commercial business.
- Manage, mentor, and coach a high‑performing team to foster professional growth and technical excellence.
- Implement leading-edge practices in regression analysis and machine learning to keep our function industry‑leading.
- Manage insurer commissions and customer fee strategies to ensure we maintain fair value and meet our contractual obligations.
- Upskill colleagues across the business to self‑serve on simpler analytics tasks, increasing overall organisational efficiency.
By driving our pricing strategy and championing fair value, you'll play a vital role in enabling big dreams for the 900,000 small businesses that trust us. This role may be subject to FCA regulations, which we'll determine during the hiring process. If it is regulated, there will be specific responsibilities under FCA regulations, including enhanced checks and referencing. We'll explain everything in more detail as part of the hiring process.

- Academically grounded with a degree in a highly numerate discipline such as Mathematics, Economics, Finance, or Engineering.
- A technical expert in price optimisation, regression analysis, and the practical application of machine learning.
- A commercial leader who can apply complex analytical techniques to the specific economic needs of an online business.
- Comfortable handling complex data and ambiguity to identify key insights and implement solutions quickly.
- An excellent communicator who can explain technical concepts in plain English to senior stakeholders.
- A strategic thinker with a proven track record of building strong relationships and influencing outcomes at board level.
Benefits:
- Work‑life balance with manageable workloads and flexibility to work hybrid.
- 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays) and the option to buy five more days of holiday with your flexible benefits.
- Flexible parental leave: six months full pay to the primary caregiver and four weeks full pay if you’re the secondary caregiver.
- Life event leave: an extra day of leave every two years for major moments (e.g., moving house or birthday).
- Long-serving employees receive a two‑week paid sabbatical after five years of service, then four weeks off after ten years of service.
- Private medical insurance through BUPA covering any pre‑existing condition, plus a health cash plan for everyday medical expenses.
- Competitive salary based on experience and the market, with potential to earn an annual bonus based on performance.
- Access to tools to support your personal development on our dedicated learning platform and support for mental health with access to counselling.
- State‑matched pension contribution up to five per cent and a tax‑free sum that is four times your basic salary with our life assurance policy, with the option to increase it to ten times through our flexible benefit scheme.
- Salary‑sacrifice car scheme: option to buy a brand new, fully insured, and maintained car for a convenient fixed monthly amount taken from your gross salary after six months of service.
