Job Profile

Simon & Schuster UK’s Adult Editorial is looking for Assistant Editor, SFF, to join their fiction team and work towards their Solstice imprint, launching in 2026.

The Job Role

The ideal candidate will work closely with the Editorial Director for SFF. This creative role involves managing the publishing process post-structural edits, assisting with cover briefs and copy, and coordinating with departments to meet deadlines. They will proofread page proofs and covers, provide author care as needed, handle data entry, and share sales figures with authors and agents.

The Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong attention to detail, a passion for SFF, Romantasy, and Horror, and a desire to learn about publishing. Supporting the Editorial Director, they will coordinate across departments to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to high standards. They will multitask, communicate clearly with authors, agents, and colleagues, and have solid genre knowledge.

They will have previous experience of working in a busy editorial team, ideally within a trade publisher and will have been responsible for signing books off for press. They will have an awareness of publishing systems and timelines and demonstrable experience of copyediting and proofreading.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking for their next step in editorial and who wants to work on a new SFF imprint. This role offers the chance to join a dynamic team with opportunities for career growth. We are encouraging candidates with a broad range of experience to apply.
