Overview

We are recruiting an experienced Assistant General Manager to support the successful operation of a purpose-built student accommodation property in Birmingham. Working closely with the General Manager, you will help lead the on-site team and maintain high standards across customer service, sales, maintenance and housekeeping. The role will be particularly busy during the summer turnaround and September intake period, when you will support the wider team with check-outs, room preparation, check-ins and welcoming new residents.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support the General Manager with the day-to-day operation of the property
  • Lead, support and motivate the on-site team
  • Oversee customer service, sales, maintenance and housekeeping activities
  • Assist with staff rotas, workloads, performance and development
  • Ensure residents receive a welcoming, professional and responsive service
  • Manage customer enquiries, complaints and operational challenges
  • Support occupancy, sales and resident retention initiatives
  • Assist with room inspections, check-ins, check-outs and summer turnaround activities
  • Ensure maintenance issues are reported, monitored and completed promptly
  • Maintain accurate property, resident and operational records
  • Support compliance with company procedures and health and safety requirements
  • Take responsibility for the property in the General Manager’s absence
  • Work collaboratively with regional and central support teams

Skills & Experience

  • Previous team management or supervisory experience within a similar environment
  • Experience within student accommodation, residential property, hospitality or another customer-focused operation
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate others
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Highly organised with the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Confident handling customer concerns and resolving operational issues
  • Ability to present and analyse information accurately
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office
  • Commercially aware with a proactive and flexible approach
  • Knowledge of health and safety requirements is desirable but not essential
