The Role

We are recruiting a Contract L5 Software Development Engineer to join a globally distributed Edge Platform team in London. You will work within the Gateway team to design, build, and operate high-scale, mission-critical infrastructure backend services powering the entry point for massive global media streaming requests.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and scale backend services powering network edge traffic.
  • Support high-throughput, low-latency architectures with a focus on availability, security, and operational excellence.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and operational practices (dashboards, alarm tuning, runbooks).

Core Technical Requirements

  • Languages: High proficiency in Java and TypeScript.
  • Cloud Infrastructure: Strong AWS experience (EC2, NLB, ElastiCache, Lambda, DynamoDB).
  • Infrastructure as Code: Hands-on experience with AWS CDK.
  • Networking Fundamentals: Deep understanding of DNS, HTTP/TLS, load balancing, and request routing.
  • Systems: Solid experience with distributed systems and Linux/UNIX environments.
  • Model Context Protocol (MCP): Hands-on experience with MCP is ideal; otherwise, a solid conceptual understanding is required.
  • Languages: Exposure to Rust.
  • Edge & End-User Client Ecosystems: Familiarity with request routing and content delivery architectures servicing end-user devices (smartphones, tablets, smart TVs, streaming media boxes).
  • AI-Assisted Workflows: Effective, practical use of AI tools and coding agents to write clean, high-quality code efficiently.
