As we establish the school in Surrey, B.C., our growing relationships with the local community, Fraser Health Authority, First Nations Health Authority, physicians and Indigenous partners will help us to meet the diverse health needs of the communities we serve and improve access to primary care throughout the province. About the Role

Simon Fraser University’s School of Medicine is seeking a talented Communications Coordinator to support the development and execution of communication and marketing initiatives that enhance the visibility and reputation of the School of Medicine. This role contributes to departmental priorities by creating and managing clear, engaging, and consistent content across digital platforms, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and institutional branding. By supporting communication plans, maintaining web and social media channels, and promoting research and achievements, the position strengthens stakeholder engagement and awareness. Additionally, the role supports data-informed decision-making by monitoring analytics to improve communication effectiveness and assists in coordinating promotional activities and events. Upcoming work will likely focus on strengthening digital communication strategies, supporting institutional campaigns, showcasing research and innovation, enhancing website content and user experience, and contributing to event-related communications to further advance the school’s outreach and impact.

The ideal candidate is an effective communicator with strong writing, editing, and proofreading abilities, able to produce clear and engaging content for a variety of audiences. They are experienced in using social media platforms, web content management systems, and basic design tools, and can leverage analytics to enhance communication strategies. The individual is well-organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities within tight timelines. They bring creativity, sound judgment, and problem-solving skills, while ensuring alignment with brand and communication standards. A collaborative, adaptable approach and the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders are key to success in this role.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, Marketing, Communications, Journalism or related field and three years of professional experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with the ability to create clear, engaging content for diverse audiences.
  • Experience managing social media platforms and web content management systems (CMS).
  • Ability to use analytics tools to evaluate and improve communication strategies.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
