Simon & Schuster UK’s Adult Editorial is looking for an Editorial Operations Director to join their team.

Reporting to the Executive Publisher Non‑Fiction & Gallery, the Editorial Operations Director will be responsible for the smooth running of our systems and critical path, and all editorial tasks and author care.

The role includes creating a central team within Adult Editorial, heading up a department of Project Editors and Managing Editorial to work alongside the three divisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create a unified editorial workflow across Fiction, Non‑Fiction, and Gallery.
  • Directly manage a Senior Project Editor in each division and oversee their teams.
  • Lead the management of the critical path, editorial operations, systems, backlist processes, and editorial plant costs.

Candidate Profile

  • Deep understanding of the publishing lifecycle and author support at every stage.
  • Strategic thinking with strong attention to detail, leading a large team across diverse titles.
  • Passion for delivering an exceptional author experience and driving efficiency through systems.
  • Proven experience in fiction and non‑fiction, team leadership, and process optimisation within trade publishing.
  • Strong editorial skills including copywriting, proofreading, and desk editing.
  • In‑depth knowledge of the publishing journey from acquisition to backlist.
