The Job Profile
Reporting to the UK Sales Director, the Adult Sales Manager will help lead our efforts in maximising sales with all UK Trade partners, including bookshops, high street and supermarket channels. The Adult Sales Manager will develop and implement our day-to-day retail and publishing strategy, taking ownership over the sales strategy on key parts of the list and working closely with the online sales team to drive ambitious and strategic cross-format campaigns.
The Job Role
The successful applicant will take responsibility for the UK account management teams, manage at least one UK account directly and liaise with wider sales teams on all titles, formats and markets. Working with the Adult Sales Director, you will be at the forefront of our sales strategy, using your expertise to cultivate relationships, identify opportunities, and create innovative sales initiatives. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure our titles reach their fullest potential.
You will be part of the team responsible for our Adult Sales budget, advising on sales strategy and providing market insight to help us deliver significant growth ambitions over the coming years. You will provide market insight to inform the overall publishing strategy and stay abreast of industry developments and best practices to drive innovation and adaptability.
The Candidate Profile
The Adult Sales Manager will have a strong sales background in either a publishing or media environment, with experience managing key accounts across large UK retailers. They will be commercially focused and analytically minded, able to use data and insight from the market to influence sound business decisions. A collaborative approach is essential, working closely with stakeholders to problem solve, taking ownership and responsibility, and knowing when to delegate.
They will develop and manage their team to be a market-leading, ambitious and highly effective sales team who are experts in their fields. Genuine enthusiasm for publishing and the ability to generate enthusiasm in others, along with a deep understanding of the book market, distribution channels, and consumer trends, is crucial.
It is essential to have a strong analytical and growth mindset, combined with creative thinking, a proactive approach to problem-solving and a willingness to embrace change. Excellent system abilities, expertise in spreadsheets, presentations and databases, alongside time management skills that include prioritisation and delegation, are important.
