Shape the Future of Technology at Simoco

Simoco is a global communications technology company delivering mission-critical solutions to customers across utilities, transport, mining, public safety and industrial sectors.

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on IT Manager to lead our internal technology function following the departure of our current IT Manager. This is a broad and influential role reporting directly to the Chief Technology & Product Officer, combining IT operations, cyber security, supplier management, governance, project delivery and business transformation. The position is based in Derby and supports colleagues across the UK whilst working closely with our Australian operations.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys both strategic responsibility and practical delivery. You will be the principal internal owner of Simoco's IT environment and the key relationship manager for our managed service provider, Air IT. The role provides real influence across technology, security, compliance and business improvement initiatives.

As IT Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring Simoco's IT services remain secure, reliable, cost-effective and aligned to business needs.

You will:

  • Own and manage day-to-day IT operations across the business.
  • Act as the primary point of accountability for IT service performance and user experience.
  • Lead the relationship with Air IT and other technology suppliers.
  • Manage Microsoft 365, identity management, licensing and collaboration platforms.
  • Coordinate cyber security activities, audits, vulnerability remediation and incident response.
  • Support and maintain ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials and related compliance requirements.
  • Manage IT budgets, renewals, contracts and supplier performance.
  • Deliver infrastructure and business technology projects.
  • Drive adoption of Microsoft 365, Copilot, automation and emerging technologies.
  • Maintain business continuity, disaster recovery and backup controls.
  • Provide concise reporting and recommendations to senior leadership.

What You'll Bring

  • We're looking for an individual who combines strong technical capability with excellent stakeholder and supplier management skills.
  • Previous experience as an IT Manager, Infrastructure Manager, Senior Systems Administrator or equivalent.
  • Experience managing outsourced IT providers or managed service partners.
  • Knowledge of networking, servers, virtualisation, cloud services and endpoint management.
  • Hands-on cyber security and incident response experience.
  • Experience supporting ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials or similar frameworks.
  • Budget management and supplier contract experience.
  • Proven ability to deliver IT projects from concept to completion.
  • Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • VMware, Veeam, Cisco, Azure or AWS experience.
  • Microsoft, ITIL, Cyber Security or Networking certifications.
  • Experience within engineering, manufacturing or multi-site organisations.
  • Experience supporting AI, automation or Microsoft Copilot programmes.

Why Join Simoco?

This role offers a rare opportunity to take ownership of an established IT environment whilst helping shape the next phase of Simoco's technology journey.

You'll have the opportunity to:

  • Lead technology initiatives across a global business.
  • Influence cyber security, compliance and business transformation.
  • Work closely with senior leadership.
  • Drive AI and automation adoption.
  • Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Make a visible and lasting impact on the organisation.

The Person

You will be:

  • Pragmatic and hands-on.
  • Calm under pressure.
  • Security conscious.
  • Commercially aware.
  • Naturally organised.
  • Comfortable operating independently.
  • Passionate about continuous improvement and technology innovation.
