Patent Attorney - IP

Our Intellectual Property (IP) Group has been at the forefront of IP law and practice for more than 40 years and has consistently been involved in many of the leading IP cases and transactions. We have over 100 IP professionals in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Simmons & Simmons is one of the most highly regarded IP practices and advises on all aspects of contentious and non-contentious IP.

We have industry expertise and focus, in particular in life sciences, TMT, consumer goods, financial institutions, transport and energy and we are highly experienced in managing multi-jurisdictional litigation, strategy and negotiations.

The role

We are seeking to recruit an electronics and software Patent Attorney to help develop our practice within our truly dynamic international firm.

You will be predominantly focusing on electronics and software in the cellular telecommunications and consumer devices fields seeking to protect their IP in Europe. More broadly, there will be opportunities for the patent attorney team to work with the firm’s patent litigators as part of litigation teams and developing enforcement and defensive strategies, and also with our corporate and commercial practice, providing an additional layer of support in evaluation, licensing, and transfer of patent portfolios during corporate acquisitions, and advice on IP aspects of commercial transactions. Clients will range from small start-ups to multinationals.

The successful candidate will be intelligent, commercially astute, conscientious, team-player with a positive and pro-active approach.

Person specification

• Applicants will be a fully qualified European Patent Attorney
• Undergraduate qualification in computer science, physics, or engineering.
• Excellent academics.
• Strong client focus with an ability and willingness to get actively involved in marketing and business development.
• Commercially driven.
• Able to work effectively as part of a diverse and inclusive team.
• Flexibility and a willingness to work additional hours on occasion as required.
