Our Banking team operates as a fully integrated global practice acting for banks, funds, asset managers, corporates, and governments on some of the most complex, challenging, and innovative transactions worldwide. Clients choose us for our market knowledge, partner-led service and extensive multi-jurisdictional experience. Our areas of specific expertise include general corporate lending, real estate finance, leveraged & acquisition finance, funds finance, trade and commodity finance and restructuring & special situations.

We believe that having all types of people from all types of backgrounds provides a variety of approach and thought which helps our business be both creative and dynamic. The mix of S+S trained lawyers and lateral hires at various levels contributes to our culture of adopting new technologies and working practices in order to meet clients' changing needs and delivering smarter solutions.

The role

We have a strong focus on technology and development in the Banking team and are committed to delivering more efficient ways of working for our clients and fee earners alike. A significant part of your role will therefore involve managing and delivering our in-house AI and document automation programme as well as maintaining a wide range of precedent and 'standard' banking documentation which needs constant maintenance and development. On top of this, you will expect to be involved in general know-how projects and to assist with know-how queries and questions raised by the group on topics of current interest (as well as more traditional topics). You will be required to be proactive in assisting with the origination of new ideas, as well as managing specific projects and delivering strategic initiatives (including in relation to the AI, automation, standards work and the development of future working practices). Working under the supervision of the group's senior PSL and the partner in charge of internal know-how, not to mention closely with other partners and senior fee earners within the Banking team, overall you will deliver high-quality knowhow and professional support services, adding value to our client offering and enhancing our working practices. Your work will actively support the Banking partners in the development of our future working practice (including on an international basis), and you will need to take responsibility for the delivery of high-quality materials and information.

Key Relationships

  • Reporting to the Knowledge Management Director, Senior Banking PSL and the partner in charge of know-how.
  • Day-to-day interaction with the partners, associates, trainees and paralegals within the banking practice group.
  • Periodic interaction with partners and associates within the Banking International Practice Group in other offices and with PSLs, marketing personnel and fee earners involved with the firm's other key sectors and other practice groups.
  • Periodic contact with members of the Central Knowledge Management team, the Information Services and other Business Services staff.

Person specification

  • Ideally 2 yrs + PQE within the Banking market, gained at another leading practice.
  • Ability and willingness to get actively involved in significant projects. Any coding / programming experience, however limited, would be a welcome addition (although this is not considered essential for the role).
  • Commercially driven.
  • Effective, responsible and conscientious. Must be able to demonstrate ability to deliver projects efficiently.
  • Able to work effectively as part of a diverse and inclusive team.
  • Flexibility and a willingness to work additional hours on occasion as required.
