Job Description
Simmons & Hanbury have been exclusively instructed by an international hedge fund on the first time hire of an Employment Counsel. This opportunity is with a very high performing, successful fund that have consistently outperformed the market during periods of geopolitical uncertainty. The position will sit within a small legal team comprised of lawyers who all trained and qualified at top firms before making the move in-house.
Key responsibilities
- Act as the first dedicated employment counsel for the firm, providing expert advice on the full range of employment law matters across the UK and international offices.
- Draft contracts and incentives for prospective Portfolio Managers.
- Advise senior management and HR on employee relations, contracts, policies, disciplinary matters, and terminations.
- Monitor and advise on developments in employment legislation and regulatory requirements
- Spend around 20% of your time assisting the rest of the legal team with a mix of commercial, corporate and regulatory work.
Experience requirements
- Qualified lawyer with 4+ years’ post-qualification experience.
- Strong employment law expertise, ideally gained in a leading law firm
- Track record advising on both contentious and non-contentious employment law issues.
- Familiarity with employment law in other jurisdictions is advantageous.
- Ability to operate autonomously as the first employment counsel, while collaborating effectively with wider legal, HR, and business teams.
