We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Application Engineer to join our growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to be involved in the full lifecycle of engineering projects, from initial enquiry and concept development through to detailed design, manufacture, testing and project completion. Working closely with our Technical Director, engineering teams, project managers and customers, you will play a key role in delivering safe, innovative and commercially successful switchgear projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support throughout the lifecycle of switchgear projects.
  • Prepare technical quotations and supporting documentation.
  • Undertake detailed electrical and mechanical design activities.
  • Produce electrical schematics, mechanical drawings and bills of materials.
  • Create design files, test schedules and associated project documentation.
  • Support project execution alongside project managers and internal teams.
  • Liaise with suppliers, subcontractors and third-party service providers.
  • Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with agreed technical, commercial and programme requirements.
  • Promote and support safe working practices at SIM Switchgear and customer sites.
  • Assist with manufacturing, commissioning and field service activities when required.

The ideal candidate will have experience within an electrical engineering or application engineering environment and be comfortable working on technically challenging projects. Requirements include:

  • Understanding of electrical switchgear, its operation and maintenance.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • ONC, HNC or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering.
  • Time-served apprenticeship within an electrical engineering discipline.
  • CAD experience.
  • Experience working within industrial, offshore or marine sectors.
