We are now looking for a Field Service & Commissioning Engineer based out of Aberdeen to support our growing service operation. This role is not purely commissioning-based and will suit someone who enjoys variety, responsibility and working across service, maintenance, upgrades, life extension and commissioning activities.

The Role:

  • Based in Aberdeen, you will deliver a full range of field and workshop-based engineering services, supporting customers across the UK, overseas, offshore and marine sectors.
  • Your primary responsibility is the safe execution of service-related projects, ensuring SIM Switchgear continues to deliver an exceptional customer experience.

The role includes:

  • Workshop-based preparation, testing and refurbishment work
  • On-site service, maintenance and upgrades
  • Offshore and marine mobilisations where required
  • Commissioning of installed switchgear as part of wider service activities

No two weeks look the same. This is a hands-on, technically engaging role in a fast-paced environment where mindset matters as much as skillset.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Delivering service, maintenance, upgrade, life extension and commissioning activities on switchgear and ancillary equipment
  • Fielding technical enquiries from existing customers and providing practical, professional support
  • Undertaking pre-mobilisation activities including risk assessments, method statements and technical planning
  • Promoting and actively contributing to a strong Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality culture at SIM and on customer sites
  • Fault finding, breakdown investigation and repair of switchgear systems
  • Protection relay testing, upgrades and associated reporting
  • Workshop-based service, inspection and preparation activities
  • Leading safely on-site when working with subcontractors or client teams
  • Completing technical reports, service documentation and expense submissions accurately and on time
  • Participating in out-of-hours call-out activities when required

SIM Switchgear reserves the right to vary duties in line with operational requirements.

Communication & Professionalism:

You will regularly interface with customers, project teams and internal departments. A professional manner, clear communication and a genuine commitment to customer care are essential. You will represent SIM Switchgear across the UK and internationally, often in high-risk or business-critical environments.

Education & Experience:

Essential / Strongly Preferred:

  • Time-served electrical apprenticeship or equivalent experience
  • ONC or higher in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Solid understanding of electrical switchgear, maintenance and fault finding
  • Experience in offshore and/or marine environments
  • Comfortable producing clear technical reports
  • IT literate, including Microsoft Office

Offshore Requirements (where applicable):

  • CCNSG Safety Passport
  • Offshore certification such as BOSIET, MIST and Offshore Medical (or willingness to obtain)
