We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Systems Project Engineer to join our team in Cambridge and deliver the bespoke, mission‑critical engineering solutions that keep people safer everywhere. In this role, you will help turn cutting‑edge concepts into functional realities for elite global clients.
Job Description
We need a high‑impact, versatile role at the center of our engineering ecosystem, acting as a vital link between custom customer needs and our core technical delivery. You will serve as the technical bridge for bespoke integrations, ensuring one‑off projects for elite clients like the Navy and Air Force are delivered with precision and speed. If you take pride in technical problem‑solving and love the challenge of delivering unique, mission‑critical solutions in a fast‑paced environment, this is the role for you.
Key Responsibilities
- Bespoke Project Delivery: Deliver singular internal and customer projects from initial scoping through to successful integration, testing, and final handover.
- Platform Integration: Lead the integration of advanced RF receivers into diverse payloads for manned and unmanned platforms, including drones and specialised vehicles.
- Power Systems Design: Design and implement robust, safe power distribution solutions for RF and Direction Finding (DF) equipment to optimise performance in the field.
- Technical Consultation: Act as the primary technical point of contact for customers, performing RF surveys and translating complex requirements into functional engineering realities.
- Surge Engineering Support: Provide targeted support to systems engineering pods during peak prototype and validation phases to ensure project momentum.
- Technical Documentation: Produce fit‑for‑purpose integration notes and compliance evidence to ensure every bespoke solution is documented for future reuse and support.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience: Proven background in RF system integration within the telecommunications, aerospace, or defence sectors, specifically with manned or unmanned systems.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in RF system testing, power distribution design, and the ability to troubleshoot complex electronics and RF components.
- Clearance & Compliance: You must hold or be eligible for UK SC Clearance (UK Eyes Only) due to the nature of our work with government and military stakeholders.
- Design Capability: Hands‑on experience with prototyping equipment and the ability to design for manufacture; familiarity with CAD software like SolidWorks is a significant advantage.
- Mindset: A bright, proactive engineer who is eager to step up, work across interdisciplinary teams, and continuously broaden their technical skill set. Equivalent practical experience is highly valued; we encourage applications even if you don’t meet 100% of the criteria.
Why CRFS?
Based at our state‑of‑the‑art facility in Cambridge (Bourn Quarter), you will join a collaborative and high‑energy engineering team dedicated to pushing the boundaries of spectrum intelligence. This is a full‑time, hands‑on role where your expertise directly influences our next‑generation products and the bespoke solutions we deliver to global clients. You will work at the cutting edge of RF innovation, moving between lab‑based builds and occasional field‑work to validate systems in real‑world conditions.
