BRITISH GRAND PRIX OPERATIONS TEAM Adrenaline fuelled and non-stop, our British Grand Prix Operations team work throughout the year to plan and deliver the Formula 1 British Grand Prix. With record attendance in 2024, and a consistently high fan satisfaction for this iconic event, we are going from strength to strength. You’ll hit the ground running when you join us – you’ll need to take control of allocated projects and deliver them to the high standards expected of a world class venue. JOB PURPOSE We are seeking a hardworking, experienced and motivated individual that adopts a hands-on approach to join us at Silverstone. The British Grand Prix Senior Crowd Operations Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies for large scale movement of crowds during the Formula 1 British Grand Prix. You will work closely with our Event Operations and Security teams, as well as the Safety Officer ensuring the safety and security of everyone attending the event. Working with organisers, internal departments and contractors to ensure expectations are exceeded and the Formula 1 British Grand Prix is delivered successfully. We are a small team that delivers big events, as such communication, team work and accountability are crucial to our success. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Planning of the Formula 1 British Grand Prix crowd operations using your expertise to create comprehensive crowd management plans, and detailed specific operational plans. Work with the British Grand Prix Operations manager to implement crowd control measures, such as barriers, signage, entry and exit points, and designated safe walking routes, including within the Zone X operation. Recruit casual and freelance resource needed to deliver the crowd operations, including Zone Managers and Assistants. Create and deliver the briefing plan to manage casual and freelance resource, to ensure they uphold the highest standards of customer service and safety. Work with the Major Events Security Team to ensure the event brief is cascaded effectively through the casual security and stewarding workforce. Leadership and accountability of direct line reports including managing Operations Managers and Assistants on projects, providing event advice, coaching and mentoring. Responsible for organising and facilitating all aspects of allocated projects. The likes of which will include budget management, site planning and inspections, emergency and contingency planning and post event evaluation. It is critical that you take ownership for all nominated projects. Main contact for projects which includes working and building relationships with all stakeholders as agreed ensuring the project is communicated and delivered effectively and efficiently within the brief. Assist with products and services procurement to enhance the event whilst keeping within budgets. Liaise and negotiate with suppliers and contractors to get a high quality, safe and cost effective service. Provide health and safety expertise whilst managing risks to ensure the event is delivered safely, this includes ensuring contractors only work on site when they have completed the appropriate documentation and supplied the correct insurance and certificates. The British Grand Prix Senior Operations Manager will also be responsible for ensuring contractors adhere to Health and Safety Guidelines and KPI’s. To be creative and look at ways of enhancing the event from both customers and business perspectives to improve revenues and reduce costs. Access control including working with the accreditation team to ensure all contractors are set up and effectively uploading accreditation requests within agreed timescales and limits. Liaising with all suppliers to ensure relevant sustainability data is captured and shared to assist in post event reporting. Complete ownership and management of significant budgets, financial reporting and reconciling budgets post event. Managing Assistants and Administrators workload to deliver the event administration including raising of purchase orders and invoices. From time to time, acting as the Duty Manager for the Venue and the safe, smooth running of all operations and activities. Supporting the Head of British Grand Prix Operations with project work as allocated. TEAM RESPONSIBILITIES Help to create an environment and proactive culture within the department Professional presentation reflecting the Silverstone values PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES Performance will be monitored against the following: Ownership and completion of events/projects in a timely manner Budget management Teamwork Objectives set through the Personal Development Review (PDR) process KEY RELATIONSHIPS British Grand Prix Operations and Public Events teams. All internal departments. The key business areas critical to the success of our events including security, finance, marketing, catering, logistics and venue operations. External third-party suppliers (traders, contractors, suppliers, F1 management and customers). KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS A relevant business or Events degree Level 5 in Crowd Safety Management or Level 4 Certificate in Spectator Safety Management Minimum of 7 years’ experience working within the events industry ideally working on major public events ideally events operating on greenfield or semi-greenfield sites Strong IT skills, particularly in Microsoft packages such as Word, Teams, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint Strong communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to influence effectively. Excellent customer service skills. Ability to work to deadlines and under pressure in a small team environment, with multiple projects at any given time. Team player with a “can-do” attitude. Adaptability and the ability to jump in at the deep end. Eye for detail with a strategic and logistical planning mind-set. Strong health and safety awareness – completion of IOSH or similar training qualifications is preferable. Driving Licence is essential. Flexible approach to working hours, including evening and weekend work. SUSTAINABILITY We don’t just look after our team and our fans. We want to look after our world too.
