Senior Engineering Workshop Technician (Maintenance & Machining) in Towcester

We are looking for a Senior Engineering Workshop Technician to support our engineering team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Preparation of workshop apparatus/equipment and materials as required, advising and assisting in the preparation and trialling of practicals and examinations while maintaining confidentiality where necessary.
• Collect and replace equipment and materials after use and clean when necessary.
• Check and maintain equipment in good working order and perform light repairs on apparatus where possible.
• Assist with supervision of students while working with engineering equipment, including mills and lathes.
• Work with teachers to develop lessons, work plans, and the classroom environment.
• Support student achievement by providing constructive feedback on their work measured against learning outcomes.
• Proactively manage behaviour, promoting self-control, independence, and integration of students.
• Assist with ordering and storage of equipment, stock, and stationery.
• Organise stock taking of all equipment, with relevant risk assessments, and use storage and disposal arrangements as required.
• Ensure safe disposal of restricted waste materials.
• Check and update the department’s inventory on an annual basis.
• Undertake routine safety checks as prescribed and maintain a safe environment.
• Be responsible for the operation and upkeep of test rigs and associated equipment, as well as handling high-value components.
• Take responsibility for Health and Safety within the engineering department, writing risk assessments and operating procedures for experiments, tests, and demonstrations, and informing staff about potential risks when necessary.
• Ensure Health and Safety records are accurately maintained and up to date.
• Conduct training on testing equipment and oversee its operation.
• Attend relevant courses concerning the work of technicians and keep up to date on Health and Safety matters.
• Act as a First Aider for the area.

Person Specification:

• Education and Qualifications: Must hold an engineering qualification.
• Experience and Knowledge: Previous technician experience, experience of working in an engineering environment, experience of managing and organising resources, a good knowledge of relevant Health and Safety requirements, demonstrable knowledge of Equality and Diversity, understanding of Child and Vulnerable Adult protection (Safeguarding Agenda) and willingness to increase knowledge, previous experience working in an educational environment (desirable).
• Skills and Abilities: Milling, Turning, CNC & workshop maintenance experience, relevant practical skills, well-organised with excellent attention to detail, good interpersonal, time management and organisation skills, flexible and adaptable individual, articulate and capable of working on own initiative, ability to work positively with children and young people, understanding the importance of following school policies and procedures, and able to show initiative where appropriate, hands-on appreciation for assembly of tooling, fixtures, and technical equipment.
