Overview

Job purpose: To work as part of a team to maintain a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene within the Care Centre, whilst ensuring a safe, comfortable environment at all times.

Main responsibilities:

  • Prioritise workload of, and allocate tasks to Domestic & Laundry employees
  • Create and maintain cleaning regimes (daily, weekly, periodically) for all areas of the Care Home (excluding those maintained by kitchen staff), in line with the company’s policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that the following tasks are carried out at appropriate intervals in all areas of the Care Centre (excluding those maintained by kitchen staff), in line with the company’s policies and procedures:
  • Thorough cleaning of all areas
  • Dusting, vacuuming and washing down of all areas
  • Cleaning of all windows
  • Polishing of mirrors, brass plates on doors and furniture (as applicable)
  • Dusting of all ledges, pictures, high areas and skirting boards
  • Shampooing of all carpets
  • Cleaning of curtains and furniture
  • Emptying/cleaning waste bins
  • Restocking of toiletries, soap, towels etc
  • Conduct random audit checks of all areas of the Care Home (excluding those maintained by kitchen staff) at appropriate intervals.
  • Continuously assess the work of domestic and laundry employees to ensure consistently high standards.
  • Liaise with the Home Manager regarding the effectiveness of cleaning products and ensure their safe storage.
  • Communication:

    • Participate in Staff and Service User meetings as required
    • Complete all relevant documentation

    Budgetary/Financial Control:

    • Liaise with the Home Manager when ordering cleaning products and undertake monthly stock checks
    • Manage and maintain agreed budgets in conjunction with the Home Manager

    Training and Development:

    • Maintain and improve professional knowledge and competence.
    • Attend mandatory training days/course, on or off site as and when required

    Health & Safety:

    • Adhere to the Care Centre’s disposal of waste policy
    • Report immediately to the Home Manager or Person in Charge any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a Service Users, colleague, self or another
    • Understand, and ensure the implementation of the Care Centre’s Health & Safety policy and Emergency and Fire procedures
    • Report to the Home Manager, Housekeeper, Handyperson or Person in Charge any faulty appliances, damaged furniture equipment or any potential hazard
    • Promote safe working practice in the Care Centre

    General:

    • An employee needs to understand their safeguarding responsibilities, develop their understanding and skills to reduce the risk of abuse or neglect to adults who need care and support, and safeguard adults in a way that recognises their choice and control
    • Ensure that all existing stocks are maintained in a safe and tidy environment
    • Ensure that all information of confidential nature gained in the course of duty is not divulged to third parties
    • Promote and ensure the good reputation of the Care Centre and the company
    • Ensure the security of the Care Centre is maintained at all times
    • Adhere to all Company policies and procedures within the defined timescales
    • Ensure all equipment is clean and well maintained
    • Carry out any other tasks that may be reasonably assigned to you
