Your role
You are a people leader and technical contributor - you balance time between leading your team, collaborating with Product, and actively contributing to the work your team delivers on the Silverfin platform. You apply your knowledge and expertise in software development to develop and grow the capability within your department. You are a people developer: nurturing and growing a team to embrace new ways of working and inspiring them to a sense of purpose. You operate in a product‑led organisation, working closely with product managers and stakeholders to align technical direction with business outcomes. You are comfortable engaging directly with customers and partners when technical depth and credibility are required. You report to the Head of Business Solutions and contribute to the broader Business Solutions leadership agenda.
Your responsibilities
- Technical contribution
- Write, review, and own code as an active contributor alongside your team.
- Lead architecture and design reviews, guiding technical decisions and ensuring consistency across the codebase.
- Set and uphold coding standards and architectural principles to keep solutions extensible, maintainable, and stable.
- Actively manage technical debt — making and communicating explicit trade‑offs between new feature work and code health.
- Stay current with relevant technologies and bring meaningful innovations back to the team.
- Build a culture of self‑development - coach and mentor team members technically, professionally, and personally.
- Own the team's maturity roadmap: identify skill gaps, drive growth plans, and act decisively on both top performance and underperformance.
- Evaluate team members and contribute to their career progression.
- Take a lead role in building best practices across the full lifecycle of Business Solutions on the Silverfin platform.
- Collaborate with Business Solutions leadership on department‑wide growth initiatives.
- Support resource planning, hiring, and onboarding within Business Solutions.
- Promote and fine‑tune agile delivery frameworks (Scrum / Kanban) to match your team's needs.
- Monitor team performance against Silverfin's goals.
- Contribute to industry‑leading eNPS by fostering a positive team environment and addressing any issues that impact team satisfaction and engagement.
- Protect your team's focus - absorb organisational noise, remove blockers, and create conditions for deep work.
- Foster cross‑functional collaboration across the organisation.
- Collaborate closely with product managers to align technical solutions with business objectives.
- Contribute to the product roadmap with technical insight, capacity planning, and delivery estimates.
- Engage confidently with customers and partners in a technical capacity when required.
- Advise, steer, and report on improvements to the Head of Business Solutions and the wider leadership team.
What would success look like?
Your team is shipping high‑quality solutions on the Silverfin platform, with clear standards and a strong code review culture in place. Your team has a visible skills roadmap, with each member progressing against agreed development goals. Delivery quality is high: low defect rates, architectural consistency, and maintainable solutions. Your teams are engaged - eNPS scores are trending upward and retention is strong. Stakeholders see you as a trusted, proactive partner who brings both technical depth and commercial awareness to the table. Customer‑facing engagements are handled with confidence and credibility, reinforcing Silverfin's reputation as a platform‑first company.
Experience and Qualifications
- Proven track record leading development or product teams - you have made people better and have the results to show for it (min 3 years of experience).
- Hands‑on experience building with React and TypeScript - you are still close to the code and intend to stay that way.
- Experience in a product‑led SaaS organisation - you understand how great products are built, not just delivered.
- Familiarity with the full product development lifecycle, from discovery and architecture through to delivery and iteration.
- Background in fintech, accounting, audit, or tax software is a strong advantage - domain knowledge helps you make faster, better decisions for our customers.
- Prior experience with Liquid is a plus; what matters more is that you are the kind of lead who picks up new languages quickly and enjoys doing so. The successful candidate will become proficient in Liquid.
Skills and knowledge
- Strong people management skills: coaching, direct feedback, performance management, empathy, and situational leadership.
- You actively integrate AI tooling into your development workflow (e.g. GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar) - not just for your own productivity, but to help your team work smarter and stay ahead.
- You lead with agile and lean thinking - Scrum and Kanban are tools you shape to fit the team, not processes you follow for the sake of it.
- You can hold your own in a room with customers, commercial stakeholders, and engineers equally - translating between technical depth and business outcomes without losing either audience.
- You have enough accounting, audit, or fintech domain knowledge to make good calls in product reviews, architecture decisions, and correctness discussions.
- Ability to work from our London office 2 days per week and align in‑office presence with team and cross‑functional collaboration needs.
- Ability and desire to travel regularly to our HQ in Ghent.
