About us

Silver Birch is a non-profit charity and social enterprise that provides work-focused training opportunities to adults with learning disabilities mainly through the provision of Social & Therapeutic Horticulture (STH). We also run a small social enterprise garden centre where all takings are reinvested back into our organisation. Silver Birch (Scotland) is a garden centre and charity based in Milton of Campsie, a picturesque village in East Dunbartonshire. We are a social enterprise that provides skills development, training, and work experience opportunities for adults with learning disabilities, mental health issues, and other barriers to work. Our aim is to help our clients develop their skills, confidence, and self-esteem through meaningful work in a supportive and inclusive environment. Further to this aim, we produce and sell a variety of gardening products including mushroom compost, multi-purpose compost, bark, shrubs, and plants.

Job Purpose:

As part of a multi-agency team, the post holder will provide support to adults with a learning disability and complex health needs within a supported employment setting.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Escort clients safely to and from the service by driving a Silver Birch minibus/tipper.
  • Provide individualised support to clients working within the Production Team.
  • Assist the Senior Support Worker in planning the order of the day’s activities.
  • Assist in organising clients’ workload.
  • Closely observe and report upon relevant aspects of individual client’s mental health, behaviour or other issues.
  • Assist clients with aspects of physical care as required in accordance with the work carried out within the service.
  • Maintain clients’ privacy and dignity at all times.
  • Understand and abide by a code of confidentiality in accordance with company policy.
  • Participate in team meetings sharing information as requested.
  • Work within company policies and procedures to ensure maintenance of safe working practices for clients and colleagues; particularly with regard to Health & Safety legislation and Risk Assessment management.
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures for the use of supplies and equipment, in order to promote the effective and efficient use of resources.
  • Participate in staff appraisal in accordance with company policy to maintain skills and develop personal growth through training and education.
  • Contribute to service development.
