The Role

Silks Luxury Lifestyle is recruiting an experienced Full-Time Private Housekeeper / Cook in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, for a warm and welcoming private family.

This permanent Monday to Friday Housekeeper position offers a salary of £45,000–£50,000 gross per annum DOE, working approximately 12pm to 8pm across 40–45 hours per week.

This is an excellent long-term opportunity for an experienced private Housekeeper in Surrey who enjoys a varied household role combining high-standard housekeeping, laundry and wardrobe care, household organisation, fresh vegetarian family cooking and some support with the family’s two teenage daughters.

The family already employs weekly cleaners who undertake the bulk of the general cleaning. This role is therefore focused on maintaining the home beautifully on a day-to-day basis, taking care of the finer details, managing laundry and wardrobes, preparing fresh family meals and ensuring everything remains exceptionally organised.

The family is very organised and tidy and takes great pride in maintaining a beautifully cared-for home. They are looking for someone who shares these standards but works in a calm, careful and considered way. They would much rather things are done properly than rushed.

The principals are also very happy to provide guidance on exactly how they like their home and food managed. The successful candidate should therefore bring excellent housekeeping experience while being adaptable, open-minded and happy to learn the family’s preferred way of doing things.

Key Responsibilities

Housekeeping & Household Organisation

• Maintain bedrooms, bathrooms, living spaces and communal areas to an excellent standard
• Ensure the home is tidy, organised and beautifully presented before finishing each day
• Carry out detailed dusting and additional cleaning between the weekly cleaners’ visits
• Notice and attend to areas requiring additional attention without always needing to be asked
• Undertake periodic deep cleaning of wardrobes, cupboards, drawers and storage areas
• Maintain excellent organisation throughout the home
• Keep outdoor terraces, pathways, gates, front porch and garage areas clean and presentable
• Remove cobwebs and maintain exterior areas as required
• Assist with the care of indoor houseplants
• Use household equipment confidently and correctly, including washing machines, tumble dryers, steam irons, ironing presses, floor steamers and vacuum cleaners

Laundry & Wardrobe Care

• Manage the family’s day-to-day laundry from collection through to returning items to the appropriate rooms
• Wash, iron, steam, fold and organise clothing to a high standard
• Hand wash delicate garments where required
• Change, wash and iron bed linen and towels
• Maintain beautifully organised wardrobes, drawers and clothing storage
• Fold and hang clothing correctly
• Organise and care for shoes and shoe storage
• Ensure clothing and household linen are returned neatly to their appropriate places

Vegetarian Family Cooking

An important part of the role will be preparing fresh, healthy vegetarian meals for the family.

The family is not looking for a professional chef. Instead, they would love someone who genuinely enjoys cooking, understands fresh ingredients and is happy to learn the family’s preferred recipes, flavours and methods of preparation.

Guidance will be provided, so this would particularly suit a Housekeeper / Cook who is confident in the kitchen but equally happy to follow the family’s recipes and preferred cooking style.

Responsibilities will include:

• Preparing fresh, healthy vegetarian family meals
• Following the family’s recipes and preferred cooking methods
• Preparing ingredients and planning ahead for meals
• Creating weekly grocery and household shopping lists
• Receiving and putting away grocery deliveries
• Keeping the fridge clean, organised and appropriately stocked
• Monitoring food dates and removing expired items
• Maintaining a clean, organised kitchen and dining area

Family & Household Support

• Drive the family’s teenage daughters to activities when required
• Provide occasional evening babysitting, with plenty of advance notice
• Be comfortable and personable around teenagers and confident being in the home with them independently
• Answer the door and liaise politely with contractors, tradespeople and visitors when required
• Receive deliveries and assist with household appointments
• Support the smooth day-to-day running of the household
• Undertake other reasonable household-related duties that naturally arise within a busy family home
