THE OPPORTUNITY
We\’re looking for an experienced and thoughtful software engineer to help design and deliver reliable, high-integrity systems at scale. You\’ll be working within a multidisciplinary team on distributed systems that operate in safety-critical environments. This is a role that combines strong technical ability with attention to detail and a proactive mindset. EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
Software Engineer – Safety-Critical & Distributed Systems
What you’ll bring to the team:

  • Ability to obtain SC Clearance with no caveats, or already in possession of this
  • Availability for 5 days on-site preferred, with flexibility for 3 days on-site once established in the role
  • Proven experience designing large distributed systems
  • At least 5 years\’ experience in professional software engineering
  • Solid programming expertise in C/C++
  • Additional experience working with Java in complex environments
  • Understanding of safety-critical or safety-related software systems, Experience with standards such as IEC 61508 (preferred), or IEC 62304 / IEC 26262
  • Strong knowledge of high-integrity coding practices including unit testing and static analysis
  • Experience with structured software development lifecycles for regulated systems
  • Confidence in writing and maintaining clear technical documentation
  • Familiarity with Software Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
  • Background in defence or secure systems is a huge bonus
  • Hands-on experience using Requirements Management tools such as DOORS or Polarion

Desirable Experience:

  • Understanding of UML and software modelling methods
  • Knowledge of embedded systems
  • Further experience in the defence industry
  • Familiarity with Atlassian tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket
  • Experience working in virtualisation and containerised environments
  • Understanding of IP networking protocols
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and tools like Jenkins or JFROG Artifactory
