THE OPPORTUNITY
SII UK is seeking a Hardware Engineer to join our engineering team in Stevenage. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge aerospace and defence projects, designing, developing, and testing hardware systems for mission-critical applications.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design and develop electronic hardware systems for defence and space applications.
- Work on full product lifecycle development, from concept to qualification and production.
- Perform circuit design, schematic capture, PCB layout, and simulation.
- Develop and integrate FPGA-based and embedded systems.
- Conduct hardware testing, validation, and verification, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including software, systems, and mechanical engineers.
- Support hardware troubleshooting, failure analysis, and root cause investigations.
- Ensure designs meet EMC, environmental, and safety requirements.
- Prepare technical documentation, including design reports, specifications, and test procedures.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong experience in hardware design, including digital and analogue electronics.
- Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB layout tools (e.g., Altium, OrCAD).
- Experience with FPGA design and embedded systems.
- Knowledge of high-speed digital design, power electronics, and RF circuits.
- Familiarity with industry standards such as DO-254, MIL-STD, and ECSS.
- Experience with hardware testing, debugging, and environmental qualification processes.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in cross-functional teams.
DESIRABLE SKILLS:
- Experience in aerospace or defence industry hardware development.
- Knowledge of signal integrity and thermal analysis.
- Understanding of systems engineering and requirements management.
- Experience with VHDL/Verilog for FPGA development.
- Familiarity with MATLAB, LabVIEW, or similar simulation tools.
- Aware of radiation effects on electronics for space applications.
