THE OPPORTUNITY
SII UK is seeking a Hardware Engineer to join our engineering team in Stevenage. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge aerospace and defence projects, designing, developing, and testing hardware systems for mission-critical applications.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Design and develop electronic hardware systems for defence and space applications.
  2. Work on full product lifecycle development, from concept to qualification and production.
  3. Perform circuit design, schematic capture, PCB layout, and simulation.
  4. Develop and integrate FPGA-based and embedded systems.
  5. Conduct hardware testing, validation, and verification, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  6. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including software, systems, and mechanical engineers.
  7. Support hardware troubleshooting, failure analysis, and root cause investigations.
  8. Ensure designs meet EMC, environmental, and safety requirements.
  9. Prepare technical documentation, including design reports, specifications, and test procedures.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  2. Strong experience in hardware design, including digital and analogue electronics.
  3. Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB layout tools (e.g., Altium, OrCAD).
  4. Experience with FPGA design and embedded systems.
  5. Knowledge of high-speed digital design, power electronics, and RF circuits.
  6. Familiarity with industry standards such as DO-254, MIL-STD, and ECSS.
  7. Experience with hardware testing, debugging, and environmental qualification processes.
  8. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  9. Excellent communication skills and ability to work in cross-functional teams.

DESIRABLE SKILLS:

  1. Experience in aerospace or defence industry hardware development.
  2. Knowledge of signal integrity and thermal analysis.
  3. Understanding of systems engineering and requirements management.
  4. Experience with VHDL/Verilog for FPGA development.
  5. Familiarity with MATLAB, LabVIEW, or similar simulation tools.
  6. Aware of radiation effects on electronics for space applications.
