SII UK is seeking a Hardware Engineer to join our engineering team in Portsmouth. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge aerospace and defence projects, designing, developing, and testing hardware systems for mission-critical applications.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Design and develop electronic hardware systems for defence and space applications.
  • Work on full product lifecycle development, from concept to qualification and production.
  • Perform circuit design, schematic capture, PCB layout, and simulation.
  • Develop and integrate FPGA-based and embedded systems.
  • Conduct hardware testing, validation, and verification, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including software, systems, and mechanical engineers.
  • Support hardware troubleshooting, failure analysis, and root cause investigations.
  • Ensure designs meet EMC, environmental, and safety requirements.
  • Prepare technical documentation, including design reports, specifications, and test procedures.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong experience in hardware design, including digital and analogue electronics.
  • Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB layout tools (e.g., Altium, OrCAD).
  • Experience with FPGA design and embedded systems.
  • Knowledge of high-speed digital design, power electronics, and RF circuits.
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as DO-254, MIL-STD, and ECSS.
  • Experience with hardware testing, debugging, and environmental qualification processes.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in cross-functional teams.
DESIRABLE SKILLS:
  • Experience in aerospace or defence industry hardware development.
  • Knowledge of signal integrity and thermal analysis.
  • Understanding of systems engineering and requirements management.
  • Experience with VHDL/Verilog for FPGA development.
  • Familiarity with MATLAB, LabVIEW, or similar simulation tools.
  • Aware of radiation effects on electronics for space applications.
