A rare opportunity has arisen within a leading professional services firm looking to build and grow its IP Strategy & Transformation offering, at a time when the market for intellectual property and intangible asset advisory is undergoing significant change.

As businesses face growing pressure to optimise costs, harness AI and unlock value from their intellectual property, IP transformation is moving rapidly up the corporate agenda. The opportunity extends well beyond traditional IP management, encompassing portfolio optimisation, innovation, commercialisation and the use of emerging technologies to transform how IP functions operate.

This is an opportunity to help shape a developing advisory business, combining specialist IP expertise with broader strategic, commercial and technology-led transformation.

The Role

Working within a multidisciplinary business spanning legal, consulting and technology, you will help clients rethink how they manage, optimise and realise value from their intellectual property and intangible assets.

Your work will encompass:

IP strategy and advisory: assessing IP portfolios, governance, operating models and commercial priorities, identifying opportunities for improvement and value creation. IP transformation: helping clients redesign their IP functions, processes and operating models, including the integration of new technologies and AI-enabled solutions. Portfolio optimisation and value realisation: identifying underutilised assets, rationalising portfolios and developing strategies to commercialise innovation and unlock value. Technology and AI: contributing to the development and deployment of emerging AI-enabled and agentic IP solutions. Business development: helping shape new propositions, build client relationships and take innovative offerings to market. The client base is broad, spanning major corporates, law firms and specialist IP advisory businesses, with particular opportunities across life sciences, consumer and technology sectors.

There will be considerable scope to help shape and grow the offering, working closely with senior colleagues across disciplines and developing opportunities for both strategic advisory and longer-term transformation engagements.

Who we're looking for

We are interested in individuals who combine credible IP expertise with commercial judgement, an appetite for transformation and the ambition to help build something new.

Candidates may come from a range of backgrounds, including:

Big Four or other professional services and consulting firms, particularly those with IP strategy, advisory or transformation capabilities. Specialist IP strategy, commercialisation or innovation advisory businesses. Corporate IP functions, where experience extends beyond portfolio management into strategy, transformation and value creation. Technology-enabled IP advisory businesses or other environments at the intersection of IP, innovation and emerging technologies. We are particularly interested in individuals who offer a combination of:

Strong understanding of IP and intangible assets, their strategic importance and commercial potential. Experience of IP strategy, portfolio optimisation, operating model design or transformation. An appreciation of how AI, data and emerging technologies are reshaping IP management and advisory. The confidence to engage credibly with senior corporate stakeholders, including IP leaders, General Counsel and CFOs. Strong client-facing and advisory skills, coupled with an entrepreneurial, collaborative and commercially minded approach. The ability and enthusiasm to help develop new propositions, originate opportunities and grow a developing business. You do not need to be a traditional IP lawyer or patent attorney, nor a technology specialist. What matters is an understanding of the IP landscape, the ability to translate that knowledge into commercial outcomes and the appetite to drive change.

This is not a conventional IP portfolio management or technical prosecution role. It will suit someone who enjoys combining strategic thinking with practical delivery, and who is energised by the opportunity to build, innovate and influence the direction of a growing business.

For someone excited by the prospect of helping businesses move beyond simply protecting intellectual property towards actively realising its value, this represents an opportunity to help shape an emerging market.
