An ambitious, fast-growing advisory firm in the Thames Valley is looking to hire a Tax Assistant Manager to join their high-performing private client team. This is not a preparation-heavy role. You’ll be expected to review, sign off and take ownership of compliance work, while playing a key role in shaping the future of the firm’s tax offering—particularly around Making Tax Digital (MTD).
If you’re someone who wants to step up, take responsibility, and make a name for yourself internally, this is a strong platform to do it.
The Role
You’ll take ownership of a portfolio of personal tax clients (OMBs and private individuals), ensuring high-quality delivery across compliance while building strong client relationships. Alongside this, you’ll have the opportunity to lead on the firm’s MTD for ITSA implementation, working closely with senior leadership to drive process, technology and client adoption.
- Managing and reviewing personal tax compliance (Self-Assessment and MTD for ITSA)
- Signing off work and ensuring technical accuracy across your portfolio
- Handling more complex returns and preparing them where required
- Acting as a key client contact, building long-term relationships
- Identifying planning opportunities and supporting advisory work
- Collaborating across service lines for wider client delivery
- Supporting and mentoring junior team members
- Taking a lead role in MTD strategy, rollout and optimisation
Why This Role Stands Out
- Clear progression pathway to Manager and beyond
- Strong senior team with deep technical expertise
- Genuine ownership of the firm’s MTD approach
- Exposure to advisory work alongside compliance
- Supportive, development-focused environment
About You
You’ll likely be at Assistant Manager level already, or a strong Senior ready to step up. More importantly:
- You are comfortable reviewing and signing off tax work, not just preparing
- You want greater ownership and visibility in your role
- You are motivated by progression and impact
- You have an interest in technology and MTD transformation
Experience-wise:
- ATT and/or CTA qualified (or equivalent experience)
- Strong background in personal/private client tax
- Experience managing or contributing to a client portfolio
- Confident communicator with clients and internal teams
The Opportunity
This firm advises ambitious owner-managed businesses and private clients, combining technical expertise with a modern, technology-driven approach. They have invested heavily in people, systems and growth, creating an environment where individuals can take responsibility, develop quickly and progress their careers.
