Signal Ocean is the technology arm of the Signal Group. Our primary product, The Signal Ocean Platform, enables shipping professionals to securely handle, integrate, and assess intricate collections of private and public shipping data. Driven by advanced machine learning and artificial intelligence, our technology suite provides tailored, exclusive insights that supports our clients in improving performance and efficiency. Insights are delivered over web and mobile applications, as well as through a rich set of APIs and SDKs. Our backend architecture is abstracted to modularly offer deep analytics capabilities our solutions leverage or can be directly embedded in our client's system topologies.
Shipping remains one of the world's most complex and under-digitized sectors - a space where data and digitisation can make a profound difference. In an era defined by global disruptions, from sanctions to supply chain challenges, innovation in this field directly shapes how the world moves goods and commodities. At Signal, we look for people eager to explore this vast, often overlooked domain, and to help build technologies that bring clarity, efficiency, and intelligence to maritime commerce and global trade.
Domain Mastery via Rotation
- Structured Rotations: You will engage in semi-annual or annual team rotations. You might spend a year optimizing the fast-paced world of Pre-Fixture (Market Analytics), and then rotate into the precision-heavy world of Post-Fixture (VMS & Operations).
- 360-Degree Knowledge: This structure ensures you aren’t just shipping features; you are mastering the entire Commercial Shipping industry. You will gain a holistic view of how a decision made in the "chartering" phase impacts the "operations" phase months later.
What You Will Do
- Tame Complexity: Whether it’s visualizing global AIS vessel movements or simplifying a complex user flow, your job is to make the complex feel simple.
- Unify the Experience: As you rotate between teams, you will act as a bridge, ensuring our Design System and UX patterns remain consistent across the entire platform.
- Collaborate Deeply: Work alongside Product Managers, Engineers, and our in-house Maritime Experts. You will translate deep domain knowledge into intuitive interfaces.
- Accelerate with AI: We believe in leveraging technology to move faster. You will use Generative AI to rapidly prototype user flows, generate scenarios, and iterate on concepts. You use AI to skip the "blank canvas" phase so you can focus on the complex, human logic of shipping.
Requirements
- A Versatile B2B Designer: You have 5+ years of experience in digital product design and are comfortable working on different types of problems, from data visualization to operational workflows.
- Systems Thinker: You understand that a change in one part of the platform impacts the whole. You design for consistency and scalability.
- Data-Fluent: You build interfaces that handle thousands of data points without overwhelming the user. You design complex grids and visualization layers that allow operators to spot anomalies and make decisions in seconds.
- Curious & Adaptable: The maritime industry is complex. You are eager to participate in our rotation program to learn the difference between a "Voyage Charter" and a "Time Charter," and to apply that knowledge to your designs.
- AI-Augmented Mindset: You treat AI as a partner in your process. You are comfortable using tools (LLMs, generative UI) to explore multiple variations of a flow in minutes, starting discovery discussions earlier rather than in days.
