The Role

We’re seeking an Engineering Manager to lead talented cross-functional teams and drive the delivery of high-quality, scalable solutions. In this role, you’ll be accountable for both people development and technical delivery outcomes, creating an environment where your team can do their best work while delivering meaningful impact to our customers. You’ll be interrupt-driven, actively creating focus for your engineers while ensuring decisions are made effectively and teams ship quality software sustainably at pace.

What you’ll do:

  • Build strong relationships through regular 1:1s, setting clear expectations, providing honest feedback, and supporting individual motivation and growth.
  • Manage 6-12 cross-functional individuals across one or more teams.
  • Be accountable for ensuring your team is appropriately staffed, onboarded, and performing as expected.
  • Proactively identify flight risks and take meaningful steps to address underlying concerns.
  • Foster healthy team dynamics, strengthen ways of working, and support teams as they evolve.
  • Work closely with Product and technical leaders to manage scope, meet delivery commitments, and communicate progress and risks clearly to stakeholders to amplify team impact.
  • Contribute to pay, promotion, and performance reviews through transparent, evidence-based, and equitable processes.
  • Contribute to and help drive management practices and initiatives.
  • Create a culture of ownership and accountability, empowering engineers to make decisions and work with autonomy.
  • Help teams define clear goals and milestones, while challenging them to achieve ambitious outcomes.
  • Maintain alignment between team goals and company objectives, keeping focus on what matters most.

You should apply if:

  • You are comfortable operating in fast-paced, evolving environments.
  • You have experience managing cross-functional teams, ideally including software engineers and AI researchers.
  • You have managed the performance and development of 5+ direct reports, including senior engineers and technical leads.
  • You have experience managing the full employee lifecycle: hiring, onboarding, performance management, career development, and retention.
  • You have prior experience working as a senior software engineer.
  • You lead with empathy and build strong, effective working relationships.
  • You are motivated by supporting others to achieve their goals, sustain their wellbeing, and grow as engineers.
  • You communicate clearly and effectively across a range of audiences.

Not sure you meet every requirement? Studies show that women and other underrepresented groups often hesitate to apply unless they check every box. At Signal AI, diverse perspectives strengthen our teams, drive innovation, and lead to better performance.
