Signable is hiring an Engineering Team Manager who will be supporting the wellbeing, development and performance of up to 8 software engineers. Supporting them with their career development, and enabling them to do their best work. Success in this role is measured by the strength of your team, not the code you write. This is a key role as we continue to scale and invest in our engineers.

Who we are: We’re Signable, a Bristol‑based SaaS company that’s been helping businesses send, sign, and manage documents digitally since 2007. Today, thousands of teams across the UK and beyond trust our eSignature platform, including Aardman, Co‑op, Octopus Energy, Krispy Kreme, and Regatta. We’re a values‑driven, people‑first team, and we’re proud to be recognised as a Great Place to Work® for Tech, Women, and Wellbeing in 2025. With a 4.8/5 rating on Glassdoor, genuine flexibility, and a culture built on trust and belonging, we aim to be a place where people can grow and feel supported to do their best work.

What we do: We’re not just a tech company. We’re a collaborative team who listen, learn, and make things better together. Whether we’re improving product features, experimenting with new capabilities, or evolving how we work, we stay focused on creating meaningful experiences for our customers and our team. We’re building for a future where digital signing is always human, helpful and within reach. With ambitious plans for growth, we’re looking for people who want to create, collaborate, and make a real impact for our customers and our team. If this sounds like you, now is a great time to get involved.

The Role: As an Engineering Team Manager at Signable, your primary focus will be people; their growth, wellbeing, performance, and long term development. You will lead a team of engineers and own the way the team works day to day, shaping processes, rituals, and ways of working that enable engineers to consistently do their best work. Success in this role is measured not by your personal code output, but by the strength, capability, and effectiveness of your team. You’ll work closely with the Head of Engineering and other Team Managers to scale engineering at Signable; embedding strong coaching practices, clear progression pathways, and team processes that support healthy, predictable delivery. While you’ll remain close to the technical domain, this is not a hands‑on delivery role. Your impact comes from leadership, clarity, and owning an environment where people, processes, and outcomes continuously improve.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • People Leadership, Coaching and Development: Lead, mentor and coach a team of engineers across a range of experience levels. Build trusted relationships through regular one to ones, feedback, and meaningful development conversations. Own personal development plans, competency reviews, and progression conversations, ensuring they are fair, consistent, and transparent. Support engineers in developing both technical and non-technical skills. Create a culture of accountability, psychological safety, and continuous improvement. Set clear expectations and help individuals perform at a high bar without burning out.
  • Creating High Performing Teams: Shape an environment where engineers can focus, collaborate effectively, and deliver consistently. Remove blockers, increase clarity, and improve flow across the team. Champion modern, healthy engineering practices that balance quality, speed, and sustainability. Drive continuous improvement in how work is planned, delivered, and reflected on. Partner with other Team Managers to align ways of working and manage cross squad dependencies.
  • Delivery and Ways of Working: Support predictable, high quality delivery by improving team practices rather than micromanaging execution. Use data and insight (such as delivery and team health metrics) to guide improvement and inform decision making. Work closely with Product and other stakeholders to translate business goals into clear, achievable outcomes. Communicate progress, risks, and context clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Hiring and Team Growth: Contribute to building great teams through thoughtful hiring. Help shape role descriptions, take part in interviews, and provide constructive, consistent feedback. Support effective onboarding so new engineers feel welcomed, supported, and productive quickly.
  • Technical and Quality Awareness: Maintain a solid understanding of modern software engineering practices, without needing to be the most hands‑on engineer in the room. Help uphold high standards around code quality, testing, security, and reliability. Advocate for pragmatic technical decisions that prioritise customer value and long term maintainability. Ensure teams understand and operate within relevant compliance and security requirements.

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • People and Leadership: Deeply people focused, with a genuine interest in helping others grow and succeed. Proven experience managing and developing engineers at different stages of their careers. Strong coaching skills, with confidence handling feedback, performance, and development conversations. Experience using competency frameworks and PDPs to support progression and recognition. Comfortable driving cultural and process change in a growing engineering organisation. Clear, empathetic communicator who can bring alignment across engineering, product, and the wider business.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of the full software development lifecycle, from discovery and design through to delivery, operation, and continuous improvement. Comfortable working across modern engineering practices including version control, CI/CD, testing strategies, monitoring, and incident response, with an emphasis on how these support reliable delivery. Able to engage credibly in technical discussions, ask the right questions, and support sound architectural and delivery decisions without needing to be the hands‑on engineer in the team. Familiarity with technology stacks similar to ours, currently PHP (Laravel), Vue, and AWS, with the expectation of learning and adapting rather than being an expert on day one. Pragmatic mindset and focused on outcomes, quality, and sustainable delivery rather than technical perfection.
  • Compliance Awareness: Working understanding of standards such as Cyber Essentials, ISO 27001, SOC 2, or GDPR, and their practical impact on engineering teams.

Why Join Signable: This role is central to how engineering operates and evolves at Signable. You’ll play a key part in shaping our culture, supporting engineers to do the best work of their careers, and ensuring we scale in a healthy, sustainable way. If you’re energised by coaching, mentoring, and building high performing teams, and you care deeply about people as much as outcomes, we’d love to hear from you. The qualifications and experience listed above act as a guide. If you feel you meet the spirit of the role but not every requirement, we still encourage you to apply.

Some of our benefits include: Unlimited annual leave - including time off for religious holidays, £50 per month to spend on either your wellbeing or development, Flexible working hours for everyone, Enhanced paid parental leave, Free face‑to‑face counselling for up to 8 sessions, Life assurance & income protection, Health support plan for things like eyecare, dentist, medical support, Option to join our AVIVA Private Medical Insurance scheme, Mac or PC? Your choice… just let us know, EMI share options.

Our Office: Central Bristol office (located on the iconic Park Street!). Multi‑purpose office space with open desk areas, quiet working booths and collaboration spaces. Tea, Coffee, Hot Chocolate plus a fridge stocked with yummy snacks and cold beverages for you. Private rooms available for religious observance, meditation and reflection. Casual dress - wear whatever you feel comfortable in & represents you. On‑site showers. Dog friendly office.

We perform background checks on all candidates to whom job offers are made. We partner with a third‑party provider to do so. We are not looking for external agency support with this role - thank you!
