Freelance Heritage Interpreter, Communities of Making (UK)

The Communities of Making network is looking for an experienced freelance Heritage Interpreter to help develop the narrative and content for a major touring exhibition launching in 2027.

Part of Art Fund’s Going Places programme, Communities of Making brings together High Life Highland Museums, CofGâr – Carmarthenshire Museums & Arts Service, and the Irish Linen Centre & Lisburn Museum.
Working collaboratively with museum teams and young curators groups across Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, the appointed interpreter will help:

  • connect collections, places and making traditions through a shared exhibition narrative
  • develop accessible and engaging interpretive content
  • place young people’s ideas and perspectives at the heart of the exhibition
  • support object selection, exhibition design and creative commissions
  • explore themes including textiles, basketry, metalwork and the sustainability of heritage craft practices

Freelance fee:£15,000, inclusive of travel and subsistence
Anticipated start / end:September 2026 to May 2027
