Sigmatex is a world-leading manufacturer of advanced carbon fibre textiles, supplying high-performance composite reinforcement materials to industries including aerospace, automotive, energy and industrial applications. As we continue to invest in the future of our workforce, we are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic 2D Manufacturing Technician Apprentice to join our team at our Runcorn site.
As a 2D Manufacturing Technician Apprentice, you will work alongside industry experts, learning the specialist skills required to manufacture high-quality carbon fibre fabrics. You will gain hands-on experience operating mechanical weaving equipment, producing advanced composite materials and developing the technical knowledge required for a successful career within advanced manufacturing. Throughout your apprenticeship, you will report directly to the UK Training Lead and receive ongoing support and mentoring while completing your qualification. As part of the apprenticeship, you will attend Riverside College, Halton, one day per week to complete the academic element of your Level 3 Engineering and Manufacturing Support Technician qualification.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Learn to safely operate and maintain mechanical weaving looms.
- Develop the skills required to weave advanced carbon fibre fabrics to exact specifications.
- Learn the process of warping and preparing looms for production.
- Assist with machine set-up, adjustments and routine maintenance activities.
- Carry out quality checks to ensure products meet customer and company standards.
- Follow manufacturing procedures, work instructions and health & safety requirements.
- Work alongside experienced technicians to develop practical manufacturing technical skills.
- Record production and quality information accurately.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment.
- Attend Riverside College one day per week and successfully complete all apprenticeship coursework and assessments.
Profile Specification:
- Minimum of GCSE Grade 4/C (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics.
- Willingness to enrol on and successfully complete the Level 3 Engineering and Manufacturing Support Technician Apprenticeship Course and End Point Assessment.
- A genuine interest in engineering and manufacturing.
- Driven, enthusiastic and willing to learn new skills.
- Good attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Ability to work well as part of a team and independently when required.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
- Reliable, punctual and committed to personal development.
