Outline of role
We are seeking a driven and experienced Mechanical Project Manager to join our established team in response to a significant increase in workload. The role will involve delivering a range of mechanical projects, predominantly within the commercial retail sector.
You will take ownership of projects from conception through to completion, ensuring delivery to the highest standards, on time, and within budget. Many of our schemes are carried out in live, operational environments, so the ability to work efficiently while minimising disruption is key. Experience in fast-track asset replacement programmes within live retail or commercial settings is highly desirable, although not essential.
Main responsibilities
You will need to be able to run and deliver exceptional projects to a high standard with a varying of mechanical trades:
- Delivering mechanical projects of varying scale and complexity to agreed deadlines, specifications, and budget.
- Applying a strong mechanical engineering background to problem-solving and decision-making on site.
- Attend and manage all on-site project phases – Oversee daily operations on site, ensuring work is carried out to the required quality standards.
- Participating in design team meetings to provide technical input and ensure buildability.
- Conducting site surveys to inform project planning and design.
- Monitoring KPIs weekly to ensure contractual and operational targets are met.
- Maintaining strict Health & Safety compliance in line with legislation, company policies, and site-specific requirements.
- Proactively managing project profitability, aiming to meet or exceed budgeted margins and identifying opportunities for cost efficiency.
- Producing accurate and timely Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs).
- Driving a “right first time” quality culture, working towards defect-free project handovers.
- Championing innovation, exploring improvements in processes, construction methodologies, and technical solutions to maintain a competitive advantage.
Knowledge and experience required
- Proven track record in delivering mechanical projects within commercial, retail, or related sectors.
- Strong project management skills, including planning, budgeting, and resource allocation.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
- Strong leadership and communication skills to work effectively with clients, subcontractors, and team members.
Qualifications
- Relevant qualification in Building Services or HVAC Engineering (HNC, HND, Degree, or equivalent).
- First Aid Certificate.
- Asbestos Awareness training.
- SMSTS certification (Site Management Safety Training Scheme).
- CSCS card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme).
