Outline of role

Working across the UK and Ireland, the SHEQ Co‑ordinator will assist the Group Compliance Director and Head of SHEQ in fulfilling Sigma’s statutory SHEQ obligations across construction, retail fit‑out, mechanical and electrical, and solar projects, while contributing to the continual improvement of SHEQ practices. The role will primarily cover the south of the UK (south of Birmingham), requiring good access to London, with monthly travel to head office in Castleford.

Main Responsibilities

  • Maintain SHEQ records, spreadsheets, and monthly reporting statistics.
  • Support site and contract managers with SHEQ documentation pre-, during, and post‑construction.
  • Assist with departmental training and competence requirements.
  • Respond to SHEQ queries from employees via phone, email, or in person.
  • Conduct site inspections and audits across the UK and Ireland (overnight stays may be required).
  • Deliver SHEQ communications such as bulletins, alerts, and toolbox talks.
  • Promote a positive SHEQ culture and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to SHEQ investigations, trend analysis, and reporting breaches or incidents.

Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Experience in one or more of Retail / Construction / M&E / Solar industries.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of how the role fits with and supports Sigma’s business priorities.
  • Strong decision‑maker, using sound judgment and evidence‑based thinking.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to build positive, collaborative relationships.
  • Committed to continuous improvement and high‑quality service delivery.
  • Well‑organised, able to manage time, prioritise tasks, and work under pressure.
  • IT literate – proficient in Microsoft Office and app‑based tools.
  • Resilient, self‑starter with a proactive approach and high energy.

  • CSCS Card
  • Asbestos Awareness
  • IOSH Managing Safely / SMSTS or equivalent
  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate or General Certificate

  • Member of IOSH Register or equivalent
  • IEMA Management Certificate or equivalent
  • First / Mental Health First Aider
