Outline of role: Working across the UK and Ireland, the Multi-Skilled Project Engineer (M&E) will play a key role in the successful delivery of mechanical and electrical projects within the retail fit-out, construction, and commercial sectors. Reporting into the Project Management team, the role will support the planning, coordination, and execution of M&E installations, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The role will primarily cover the south of the UK (south of Birmingham), requiring good access to the South West & Wales, with regular travel and occasional overnight stays, alongside monthly visits to head office in Castleford.

Main responsibilities:

  • Support the planning, coordination, and delivery of M&E projects from inception through to completion.
  • Work collaboratively with Project Managers, subcontractors, and site teams to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Review technical drawings, specifications, and project documentation.
  • Monitor site progress, ensuring works are completed in line with programme, quality, and compliance standards.
  • Assist with procurement of materials, plant, and subcontractor packages.
  • Conduct site visits, inspections, and quality checks across projects (UK & Ireland travel required).
  • Identify and resolve technical and operational issues on-site.
  • Ensure all works are carried out in line with health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Support commissioning, testing, and handover processes.
  • Contribute to project reporting, progress updates, and documentation control.

Knowledge and skills required:

  • Experience within Mechanical & Electrical (M&E), construction, or retail fit-out environments.
  • Good understanding of M&E systems, installations, and project delivery processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to build collaborative relationships with stakeholders and subcontractors.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work under pressure.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work.
  • IT literate proficient in Microsoft Office and project-related systems.

Qualifications required:

  • Essential: Relevant engineering qualification (e.g., Mechanical, Electrical, or Building Services) or equivalent experience.
  • CSCS Card.
  • SMSTS / SSSTS or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of M&E installations and project environments.

Desirable:

  • Membership of a professional body (e.g., CIBSE, IET).
  • Experience in retail or fast-paced fit-out environments.
  • Knowledge of sustainability or energy systems (e.g., solar).
  • First Aid qualification.
