Outline of role:
We are seeking a driven and experienced Mechanical Project Manager to join our established team in response to a significant increase in workload. The role will involve delivering a range of mechanical projects, predominantly within the commercial retail sector. You will take ownership of projects from conception through to completion, ensuring delivery to the highest standards, on time, and within budget. Many of our schemes are carried out in live, operational environments, so the ability to work efficiently while minimising disruption is key. Experience in fast-track asset replacement programmes within live retail or commercial settings is highly desirable, although not essential.
Main responsibilities:
- Delivering mechanical projects of varying scale and complexity to agreed deadlines, specifications and budgets, including energy-efficiency and decarbonisation works.
- Applying strong mechanical engineering knowledge to problem-solving and decision-making on site.
- Attending and managing all on-site project phases, overseeing daily operations and ensuring quality standards are consistently met.
- Participating in design team meetings, providing technical input with a focus on buildability, energy performance and lifecycle value.
- Conducting site surveys to support project planning and identify opportunities for plant optimisation and carbon reduction.
- Monitoring KPIs weekly to ensure contractual, commercial, and operational targets are achieved.
- Maintaining strict Health & Safety compliance in line with legislation, company policies and site-specific requirements.
- Proactively managing project profitability, achieving or exceeding target margins and identifying cost and energy efficiencies.
- Producing accurate and timely Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs).
- Driving a “right first time” quality culture, working towards defect-free, compliant handovers.
- Championing innovation by exploring improved processes, construction methodologies and low-carbon mechanical solutions to maintain competitive advantage and support client sustainability goals.
Knowledge and experience required:
- SMSTS certification (Site Management Safety Training Scheme).
- CSCS card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme).
- Proven experience delivering mechanical projects within commercial, retail or related sectors.
- An understanding of energy-efficient building services and modern mechanical plant, with exposure to decarbonisation projects beneficial.
- Strong project management skills, including planning, budgeting and resource allocation.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with close attention to detail.
- Strong leadership and communication skills to effectively engage clients, subcontractors and internal teams.
Qualifications:
- Relevant qualification in Building Services or HVAC Engineering (HNC, HND, Degree, or equivalent).
- First Aid Certificate.
- Asbestos Awareness training.
Benefits:
- 25 days holiday plus bank holidays.
- A day's ‘birthday leave' to be taken within your birthday month.
- Opportunity to buy or sell up to 3 days holiday.
- Opportunity for hybrid working.
- Ability to participate in the Octopus EV salary sacrifice scheme.
- Ability to participate in the Cycle to Work Scheme.
- Employee Assistance Programme.
- Healthshield cash plan with discounts on high street stores.
- Free external financial advice – offering support for mortgages, pensions and insurances.
- Enhanced family friendly pay.
- Free tea, coffee and fruit on all sites.
- Opportunity to be involved with Group Colleague Board.
- Quarterly Corporate Events/Charity Involvement.
