SSW is looking for Tech Support Volunteers to help blind and partially sighted people get the most from their devices. Whether it’s setting up accessibility features, troubleshooting an app or installing a smart speaker, your support can make everyday tasks easier and more empowering.
This role will help Sight Support Worthing expand the support we can provide to members who rely on technology to remain independent, connected and informed. Technology such as smartphones, tablets and accessible apps can make a significant difference for people living with sight loss, but many individuals need patient guidance and reassurance to learn how to use these tools confidently.
Tech Support Volunteers help us provide that one-to-one support, enabling more members to access assistive technology and digital services that improve their everyday lives. By supporting members with practical tasks such as setting up devices, learning to use accessibility features, or navigating digital tools, volunteers help reduce barriers that people with visual impairments often face.
For the organisation, this role allows us to increase the number of people we can support through our technology service without placing additional pressure on staff resources. It also enables us to respond more quickly to members’ needs and deliver more frequent support sessions. Ultimately, this role helps us fulfil our mission to improve independence and wellbeing for people with visual impairments through accessible support and inclusive opportunities.

What will you be doing?
- Providing one-to-one support to clients with their phones, tablets, computers, and other devices.
- Support may take place during tech drop-in sessions at our centre or via pre-arranged home visits for those unable to travel or using non-portable devices.
- The hours and time commitments are flexible depending on your availability, but we require volunteers to commit to a minimum of 3 sessions of 1 hour per month.
- Full training and equipment are provided, and reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed.
