Overview
The vacancy aligns with our aim to create and support accessible opportunities for veterans with sight loss who access our Activity Hubs. The role helps veterans engage in activities, comradeship and peer support, and supports the organisation of events that promote social connections. The role includes safely transporting veterans to and from the activity hub. As the welcoming face of Sight Scotland Veterans, you will be a key representative and first point of contact each day. You will conduct and record daily vehicle checks and report issues to the leadership team. The role collaborates with the Activity Hub in the West of Scotland and the Support Hub team to expand veterans’ access to activities across the country.
Responsibilities
- Safely transport veterans with sight loss to and from the activity hub, and assist with escort duties as required.
- Be the welcoming face of Sight Scotland Veterans and a key point of contact for veterans each day.
- Conduct and record daily vehicle checks and report any issues to the leadership team.
- Support the organisation of events and activities that promote social and peer support opportunities.
- Work closely with the Activity Hub in the West of Scotland and the Support Hub team to extend access to activities across the country.
- Prepare the centre to welcome veterans daily and facilitate activities that support health and wellbeing.
- Support the team to provide a high standard of service and a person-centred experience for veterans.
Requirements and Development
- Driving licence is essential due to driving/escorting duties.
- Outgoing and organised personality with the ability to motivate and encourage veterans to try new things, ensuring accessibility and participation.
- Work closely with the Centre Officers team to ensure support is person-centred and outcomes-focused.
- Visual Impairment awareness training and tailored role training are provided via our Learn Pro platform.
- Coaching and peer-to-peer development aligned with the organisation’s values.
