Job Description
Sight for Wight, the Island’s oldest charity, supports people living with and affected by Sight Loss. We are looking to appoint a Finance Officer to manage all aspects of our accounts and Charity compliance.

We have two distinct brand here at the Charity Sight for Wight which offers lifelong support to anyone living with Sight Loss and WightSense which offer rehabilitation services and support to people living here on the Island with Sight and or Hearing lossonbehalfoftheIsleofWight Council.
In 2020 we decided to totally review the work of Sight for Wight. We reached out to our members and really questioned them on what they needed from us. Asa resultofallthiswork,theBoard of TrusteesandStaffhave developedthe2020Strategy, asummaryof which is below. We have now mapped out Island wide provision for Visually impaired people, in line with the needs of our members and identified gaps which we are working towards filling along with the partner organisations that we work with across the Island.
The Finance Officer role will need someone with proven solid accounting experience who can work both alone managing the accounting function in its entirety (payroll is external) and with myself to continue to keep tight control of every penny spent. Managingcostsonfundraisingeventsandnewprojectsareveryimportant partsoftheworkwhichwillrequireworking asateam with other staff members.
- TheprimaryfocusesoftheFinance Officerfor both the main Charity and the trading company are:
- Processallaccountingtransactionincludingpurchase,salesandnominalledger.
- Produce and Analyze Quarterly reports including Income and Expenditure, Balance and Budget performance.
- Ensurealltransactionarerecordedagainstprojectcodesandgrantfundingrequirements
- Prepare and manager the cash flow and collate information on investment performance
- Prepareannualbudgetandreportonandmanagevariances
- Embedexistinganddeveloprobustfinancialprocedures
- Produce year end accounts for submission to Independent examiners
- Compliance work to ensure the Charity works within its own governance and wider legal infrastructure.
Further you will need to:
- Maintain an excellent level accuracy, timekeeping, personal presentation and professional standards.
- Engage with the office team as a whole, putting the needs of members at the forefront at all times
