Role
As an ILS / Supportability Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring systems and equipment are designed, supported and sustained through life in the most cost‑effective and operationally effective way. You will work across engineering, projects, supply chain and customers to develop and deliver Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) solutions for MOD programmes, ensuring reliability, maintainability and supportability are considered throughout the system lifecycle. You will act as a subject matter expert for ILS and supportability, influencing design, support strategy, and through‑life management.
Key responsibilities
- Supportability analysis & planning
- Conduct Logistics Support Analysis (LSA)
- Carry out Reliability, Availability and Maintainability (RAM) analysis
- Conduct Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA)
- Develop Level of Repair Analysis (LORA)
- Develop Maintenance Task Analysis (MTA)
- Develop provisioning and spares strategies
- Contribute to availability modelling and lifecycle cost analysis
- Production and maintenance of ILS documentation, including:
- Through Life Management Plans (TLMP)
- Integrated Support Plans (ISP)
- Logistics Support Analysis Records (LSAR)
- Supportability Case Reports (SCR)
- Technical Publications and Illustrated Parts Catalogues (IPC)
- Obsolescence Management Plans
- Lifecycle sustainment
- Influence design reviews to improve maintainability and supportability
- Define maintenance concepts and support strategies
- Identify spares, repair and obsolescence risks
- Support configuration and change management activities
- Work with engineering, project management, procurement and customers
- Support provisioning conferences and design reviews
- Provide supportability input to bids or proposals where required
Person specification
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Engineering, Systems Engineering, Logistics or related field
- Experience in ILS, supportability engineering, reliability engineering or sustainment engineering
- Understanding of reliability, maintainability and lifecycle support principles
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to work across multiple teams and disciplines
- Strong technical documentation and communication skills
- Experience in defence, aerospace, maritime or other regulated industry
- Experience working with MOD or government customers
- Experience supporting bids or proposals
- Understanding of configuration management
