Remit

  • As a Toolmaker you will be responsible for the repair, maintenance and improvement of mould and press tooling to a production standard.
  • The successful candidate will have experience in repairing and maintaining mould & press tools and display a strong mechanical aptitude and the desire to learn and develop upon their skills where necessary

Role

  • To manufacture all work as specified by the Tool Order Request using current issue design drawings.
  • To be capable of working to BS 308 drawing standards and its associated BS standards.
  • Evaluate repair jobs to determine the work involved to get tooling into spec and back to production.
  • Responsible for inspecting and testing your work to ensure all tooling lies within specification, meets quality standards and functional requirements.
  • To comply with all current work instructions operable within your area of activity.
  • To comply fully with all current Health and Safety regulations in operation within the Company whilst carrying out your toolroom duties.
  • Operate all machines and processes in accordance with accepted and documented procedures such as: Manual mills, lathes, surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, jig grinders and EDM sinkers.
  • Ability to perform benchwork/hand skill activities using a wide range of tools and equipment and able to maintain those tools in an operational condition.
  • To carry out those tasks required by your line manager that are within your capability to meet the needs of the Company.
  • Responsible for basic machine maintenance and good housekeeping.
  • Report to your line manager immediately on finding any machine or equipment malfunction.

Experience

  • Engineering qualification / time served apprenticeship
  • Confident using various methods of measurement with equipment such as: Micrometres, Verniers, Slip gauges, Pin and Thread gauges, Shadow graph, ect.
  • Experience and knowledge of hot runner, unscrewing mould and progression strip tooling.
  • Understanding of mould and press tool processes and operations.
  • Hot runner system knowledge and experience.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot, diagniose and resolve issues across multiple jobs
  • Experience with standard toolroom equipment, milling, turning, grinding, Laser welding.
  • Ability to read an interpret engineering drawings
  • Computer literate with good Microsoft Office skills
  • Ability to work individually as well as part of a team.
