Our Rolling Stock and Customer Service keeps trains running safely and reliably every day. The business delivers expert maintenance, technical support and digital solutions across the full lifecycle of rail fleets, helping customers maximise performance, availability and passenger satisfaction.

We are currently recruiting for a Shift Production Manager to join our Ardwick traincare facility in Manchester. In this role you will be responsible for the day-to-day delivery of the Train Service Agreement to our customer, planning and resourcing a team of skilled Supervisors and Technicians to ensure the on-time completion of maintenance activities on the rolling stock. You will also be responsible for the management of defects to ensure a robust and reliable operational service is provided.

This role requires shift work including both days and nights.

This role is classified as safety critical and is subject to a pre-employment medical assessment, which must be successfully completed prior to start.

You will make a difference by:

• Planning and managing all resources including people, plant, material, tools and third-party services to meet the operational requirements.
• Developing and executing production plans to meet business targets, keeping deferred work to a minimum.
• Ensuring all maintenance activity is undertaken in accordance with the relevant maintenance instruction and Group Standards.
• Ensuring optimum shift coverage minimising downtime, complaints, or delay to our customers.
• Ensuring any extraordinary circumstances or any complex work is built into the plan.
• Actively encouraging identification and implementation of continuous improvement activities.
• Developing good relationships with customers by ensuring consistent delivery of targets and escalations are dealt with promptly.
• Managing day-to-day operations in line with agreed KPIs.
• Ensuring short-range budget objectives are met and identifying criteria for monitoring progress and measuring success.

Your role profile may vary from time to time in accordance with business needs. Your annual objective setting with your line manager will outline any additional responsibilities required to meet business or individual development needs for the forthcoming financial year.

Your success will be grounded by:

• Management or supervisory experience in a technical position.
• Technical knowledge of Rolling Stock maintenance procedures/practices.
• Engineering ONC or equivalent qualification or experience.
• Good knowledge of IT systems/software.
• Excellent communication skills both written and oral.
• Strong organisation/planning skills.
• Knowledge of continuous improvement techniques.
• Good understanding of Health, Safety and environment legislation/procedures.
• Basic understanding of project management principles.
• Contract/Commercial knowledge.
