We are currently recruiting for a Rolling Stock Engineer to join our growing Engineering team. The Rolling Stock Engineer - Bogie and Wheelset Systems will provide engineering leadership, supporting a variety of train systems, with a focus on railway Bogie and under-frame equipment as part of the Engineering Team to provide expert-level support for overhaul activities. The successful candidates will be site-based at our Goole Rail Village but in the interim, temporarily based in Lincoln due to development of new site.

You’ll make an impact by:

  • Undertaking investigations of local and multi-fleet engineering issues.
  • Mitigating associated engineering risks related to safety and technical issues ensuring no additional risks are imported to the operational railway.
  • Leading investigations into Safety Related Defects / Technical Incidents.
  • Developing modification procedures required to improve safety and performance issues.
  • Providing engineering expertise to support the development of maintenance optimisation, component overhaul and repair regimes.
  • Utilising standard engineering tools e.g. RAMS.
  • Producing specifications, risk assessments and business cases for engineering activities and to support recommendations as required.
  • Undertaking component condition assessments to support the development and improvement of rolling stock maintenance regimes.
  • Producing recommendations for re-engineering and repair processes as applicable.
  • Providing on-site engineering support to key suppliers in support of ongoing activities.

Your success will be grounded by:

  • Proven experience of rolling stock maintenance, planning and IT systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of Rolling Stock Maintenance techniques and procedures.
  • Experience of Rail Vehicle Engineering and repair activities.
  • Solid understanding of passenger or freight railway bogies.
  • Relevant Engineering qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Good knowledge of IT systems/software.

It would also be beneficial to have:

  • A Chartered Engineering certification or working towards chartered status.
  • Experience with reverse engineering to find alternative suppliers for components, making use of limited information and drawings.
