Principal Design Engineer – ProtectionJoin our Smart Infrastructure Division as Principal Design Engineer – Protection. Siemens Digital Grid has secured a position on the National Grid 5 Year Light Current Framework, resiliently providing robust systems with the latest Siemens technology on new National Grid substations and extending the existing infrastructure. A safer and lower carbon project delivery footprint will be adopted.

Location: This role can be based anywhere in the UK; you could work remotely with occasional travel to meet up with your team in the office. In the initial stage of joining the team, you would be required to be present at the Hebburn office for 2–3 days per week while training.

How you will make an impact

Deliver transmission protection and control systems with our end-customers from various domains & fields.

Technically lead one of our Protection engineering teams, mentoring / coaching other members to support their growth.

Assess the Protection Engineering process and optimise it to build an efficient engineering process allowing delivery of projects to specification and on programme.

Provide innovative solutions as technical lead for protection on UK Transmission and Distribution network Projects.

Ensure that Siemens solutions are aligned with the latest policies and standards.

Provide a high level of customer service to clients and maintain the highest standards of quality.

Sound problem‐solving skills, fault‐finding skills and analytical thinking.

Provide technical feedback for Sales, Proposals and Operations departments.

Foster a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.

What skills and experience will you bring to the role

Working in multidisciplinary teams delivering technical Protection and Automation solutions.

Application of protection and control systems on National Grid transmission network.

Detailed knowledge of National Grid delivery and specifications/standards.

National Grid Contractor Design Approval Engineer experience (Assurance or Contractor).

Detailed design knowledge covering circuit diagrams, interface diagrams, cubicle design, settings and testing FAT.

Experience using industry‐standard software tools for design, simulation and test; desirable to have SIPROTEC / DIGSI knowledge.

Experience taking care of NG as direct customer and/or EPC customers providing protection solutions for brown‐field extensions or green‐field build.

Excellent interpersonal skills to allow efficient co‐ordination between the team / function groups and the customer.

A minimum qualification of HNC/HND (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering plus extensive experience in the Electricity Transmission and Distribution Industry.
