Join our Smart Infrastructure Division as Principal Design Engineer – Protection. Siemens Digital Grid has secured a position on the National Grid 5 Year Light Current Framework, providing robust systems with Siemens technology on new and existing National Grid substations, with an emphasis on safety and low carbon footprint.

Location: This role is flexible within the UK, allowing remote work with occasional travel. Initially, presence at Hebburn office for 2-3 days per week during training is required. How you will make an impact:

  • Deliver transmission protection and control systems in collaboration with end-customers across domains.
  • Lead protection engineering teams, mentoring team members for growth.
  • Assess and optimize Protection Engineering processes for efficiency and project delivery.
  • Provide innovative technical solutions for UK Transmission and Distribution projects.
  • Ensure Siemens solutions comply with policies and standards.
  • Maintain high customer service standards and quality assurance.
  • Apply strong problem-solving, fault-finding, and analytical skills.
  • Offer technical feedback to Sales, Proposals, and Operations teams.
  • Promote knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.

Skills and experience required:

  • Experience in multidisciplinary teams delivering Protection and Automation solutions.
  • Knowledge of protection/control systems on the National Grid transmission network.
  • Understanding of National Grid standards and delivery processes.
  • Experience as a Contractor Design Approval Engineer (or similar role).
  • Design expertise in circuit diagrams, interface diagrams, cubicle design, settings, and testing FAT.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard design software; SIPROTEC/DIGSI knowledge is a plus.
  • Experience with protection solutions for NG or EPC projects, in brownfield or greenfield contexts.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for team and client coordination.
  • Minimum HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering with extensive industry experience.
