We are currently looking for a Head of Production to join our Rolling Stock business in Northampton. Our teams of dedicated engineers are enhancing the safety of the UK railways ensuring that all of our passenger trains meet safety requirements across the UK and you could be part of it. You will lead our team of Production Managers to deliver maintenance of the fleet in a safe, compliant, and effective way.
Reporting to the Fleet Delivery Manager, you will be responsible for the successful operational performance and efficiency of the depot ensuring that resourcing requirements are met, robust operating procedures are in place, employees are engaged, and the health and safety environment is continually maintained and improved. You will develop and drive operational improvement projects that will improve productivity and implement any changes/modifications as agreed with the customer/internal partners. You will be responsible for day-to-day delivery of train maintenance service level agreements for high value contracts and accountable for production budgetary control.

You’ll make a difference by:
- Establishing, developing, and monitoring the delivery of the short-, medium- and long-term production plan.
- Interacting with support functions and key suppliers to ensure on time delivery of material and services.
- Overseeing the short-term production plans to ensure that changes, driven by customer or technical requirements, can be incorporated.
- Developing strong customer relationships at senior management ‘Fleet Performance’ level, understanding customer needs, and anticipating emerging customer requirements.
- Ensuring availability is maintained to contractual requirements and delivering reliability improvements to agreed annual targets.
- Developing and implementing employee technical and non-technical development plans to support and enhance business capability and employee career aspirations.
- Using Lean and continuous improvement methodologies, seeking opportunities for improvement and efficiency within the business, scoping and delivering a range of continuous improvement projects.
- Responsible for the creation and delivery of operational process, supporting long-term strategic programmes such as, overhauls, modifications and fleet campaigns.
Your success will be grounded by:
- Minimum HND or above qualification in a maintenance management or engineering environment or equivalent experience.
- Experience of managing and engaging technical teams to deliver results within a time-critical operation.
- Experience of managing change and employee relations.
- Knowledge of continuous improvement techniques and experience of implementing change projects in an engineering environment.
- Good understanding of health and safety legislation, ability to demonstrate implementation of health and safety procedures in safety critical environments.
- Strong analytical skills and numerate, comfortable with the review and development of management information; IT literate – can develop and interpret spreadsheets.
