We provide rail SCADA, Communications, Networks and Cyber Security for Mail Line, Mass Transit and Light Rail across the UK&I and Middle East, with key customer areas of Network Rail, HS2, TfL, TfGM, TfW, Irish Rail and Riyadh Metro.
The Principal Network Architect is responsible for the development of network architectures to support the following applications within the Siemens Mobility portfolio: Railway Signalling & Control Systems, SCADA, Station Information and Security (SISS), Voice, and MPLS transmission technologies. The candidate will have a breadth of knowledge across all aspects of network engineering and an interest in bringing modern technologies and methodologies to the Rail industry. The successful candidate will be comfortable developing new solutions to help make the delivery of networking assets faster and more costâeffective while preserving Siemensâ reputation for safe and reliable delivery.
You will be responsible for:
- Undertaking the role of Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Siemens network solutions being responsible for allocated Technical Authority works and approval.
- Providing and maintaining standard network system configurations and network Interface specifications for Siemens Applications, including: Signalling Systems, Control Systems, Electrification / SCADA Systems, SISS, Voice, MPLS.
- Obsolescence & vulnerability management of Siemens approved network devices, software and solutions.
- Undertaking review of proposed bid network solutions and provide technical authority approval.
- Undertaking review of project solutions against standard configurations and advise deviations from this where necessary.
- Management of IP addresses and Switch operating system baselines.
- Acting as Subject Matter Expert providing guidance to the wider teams on Network technologies.
- Undertaking resolution of network faults escalated to SME level throughout the project life cycle.
- Contributing to the development of network tools and templates.

- Demonstrable experience in the design and implementation of networks supporting several of the following: Railway Signalling & control systems, Industrial control systems / SCADA, CCTV systems, and / or Voice Unified voice solutions Service Provider / MPLS transmission Data Centre (Firewalls, Storage / Server Build / Virtualisation) Automation Security.
- Experience in providing âSubject Matter Expertâ or similar role for networks within a Rail / Mass Transit environment.
- A current âprofessionalâ level qualification from a major networking vendor (e.g. CCNP, JCP).
- Comfortable in a role with a high degree of autonomy.
- Familiar with a variety of network and IT automation and management systems.
- Knowledge of and experience using the systems engineering lifecycle.
