We are now recruiting a Deputy Supervisor to support the leadership of a skilled team of rolling stock technicians at our Ardwick Depot based in Manchester. In this role, you’ll report directly to the Supervisor/Production Manager and lead a dedicated team in meeting and exceeding the daily Train Service Agreement. You will take full ownership of delivering quality work in a safe, efficient manner, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement. With a focus on driving productivity and implementing process improvements, you’ll play a crucial role in enhancing operational efficiency. Additionally, you will support the continuous growth and development of your team, cultivating a work environment that prioritizes both performance and collaboration. This is a shift-based (12 hour) role with a rotating schedule of days, nights, and weekends. To meet the legal requirements set out in the Working Time Regulations, ROGS Regulations, and other Railway Group Standards, applicants must live within a one-hour commute of the Ardwick depot.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and manage resources—people, materials, tools, and services—to meet daily operational needs and improve efficiency.
  • Implement production plans to achieve business goals and minimize deferred work.
  • Ensure maintenance activities align with standards and are conducted as per relevant instructions.
  • Optimize shift coverage to reduce downtime and enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Understand and address customer requirements, keeping plans updated and maintaining relationships.
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement, empowering team members to implement beneficial changes.
  • Implement safe systems, communicate health and safety responsibilities, and promote a zero-harm culture.
  • Make service decisions aligned with contract deliverables, monitor efficiency, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Demonstrate Siemens management standards, cultivate a high-performance culture, and engage employees effectively.
  • Supervise team performance, provide feedback, and communicate business information to drive improvements.

Qualifications

  • Leadership experience within a rolling stock or vehicle maintenance environment.
  • Technical knowledge of Rolling Stock maintenance procedures/practices.
  • Good knowledge of IT systems/software.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills both written and oral.
  • Strong organization/planning skills.
  • Good understanding of Health, Safety and environment requirements.
  • Engineering ONC or equivalent qualification or experience.
  • Basic understanding of continuous improvement principles.
  • Contract/Commercial knowledge.
