How The Programme Works

The apprenticeship follows the ST0496 Rail and Rail Systems Senior Engineer, Signalling & Control Systems Pathway. Apprentices work on live projects, attend a personalised training plan, and develop the knowledge and hands‑on experience required to kickstart a professional career at Siemens Mobility.

Key Learning & Experience

  • Capture detailed requirements, design, implement, test, install and maintain signalling control systems.
  • Write, analyse, test and integrate software systems and databases.
  • Design and configure IP networks used in railway signalling.
  • Work on re‑signalling projects and develop the latest signalling & control systems across the UK rail network.
  • Apply technical standards and processes associated with transport and process industries.
  • Participate in volunteering events such as Greenpower and Big Bang Fair.
  • Prepare evidence for professional registration such as EngTech.

Minimum Educational Requirements

  • A Levels (120 UCAS points) including Mathematics and/or Physical Sciences.
  • Level 3 Rail Engineering Apprenticeship.
  • BTEC National Diploma DDM (128 UCAS points) including Level 3 Mathematics and Physical Sciences.
  • EAL Technical Extended Diploma in Engineering Technologies (122 UCAS points).
  • Access to HE qualifications (122 UCAS points) with Mathematics and Physical Science subjects.
  • Equivalent Level 3 qualifications (120 UCAS points) including Mathematics and Physical Sciences.

Applicants must hold 5 GCSEs A‑C including Maths and English Language (grade 4 or above).
