Siemens Digital Industries Software is seeking motivated Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software engineers to join our CFD solver development team. The primary focus of the CFD solver team is the conception, design and development of core thermo-fluid flow solver capabilities within Siemens Digital Industries’ flagship multi-physics simulation product, Simcenter STAR-CCM+. The CFD solver development team is responsible for developing accurate, robust and efficient flow solvers for modeling complex industrial flows, such as turbomachinery, external aerodynamics, and internal combustion engines.
As a team member, you will be expected to contribute to both the innovation and development of new features, as well as the improvement and maintenance of existing functionality. Your responsibility will be to ensure a well-designed, high-quality, robust implementation; efficient operation; and good scalability in our highly parallel, client-server platform.
What you’ll be doing:
- Design and development of core CFD solver components in Simcenter STAR-CCM+
- Ensuring high-quality and robust implementation of core CFD solver components in Simcenter STAR-CCM+
- Supporting maintenance and improvement of our existing capability (bug fixing, code refactoring, etc.)
- Conception, design and development of new features based on requests from both product management and internal strategic initiatives
- Participation in regularly scheduled team meetings and contribution of ideas to drive innovation in our technology
- Supporting other developers through design discussion and code review
What you'll bring:
- A PhD or Master's degree in engineering, physics, applied mathematics, or a related physical science discipline
- Solid understanding of the Navier-Stokes equations and the numerical methods used to solve them
- Working knowledge of object-oriented C++ and an interest in building maintainable, well-structured software
- Familiarity with computational modelling of fluid flow, ideally in aerodynamic or hydrodynamic applications
- Good understanding of software design principles, and a willingness to learn modern design patterns
- Familiarity with high-performance computing concepts, including parallel programming and GPU computing
Nice to have:
- Coursework or project experience in thermodynamics, heat transfer, multiphase flow, or combustion
- Exposure to CFD applications such as vehicle aerodynamics, internal combustion engines, or turbomachinery
- Experience with CFD software, either commercial or open-source, through academic projects, internships, or personal work
- Experience with source control (such as Git) and participating in code reviews or team-based development

How to prepare for a job interview at Siemens
✨Brush Up on Your Coding Skills
For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.
✨Know Your Tools and Frameworks
Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Siemens uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.
